SCCA Laguna Seca Race this weekend 3-29-14 (also new helmet paint picture)
Bringing the ole, stock equiped porsche 928 with no oiling mods or breathers, to laguna this weekend to hit the redline and pull some Gs on 335 slicks this weekend. Im thinking it will survive .
any things anyone wants to see with video. i have a bunch of cameras. i could focus on the oil pressure guage, oil temp gauge, rear cam, front cam, etc.
Let me know if anyone wants a differnent view of the race.
race is at 11am on Saturday, with qualifying on Friday at 2:55
Let me know if anyone is in the area and wants to stop by. Ill be near the american V8 supercar guys, but runniing GT2, becuase i want to qualify for the HUGE televised event later this year, called the SCCA RUNOFFS in Oct.
I wanted to run in a sub division called GT2-ST, but i need my old VTS sheets for when the 928 ran world challenge and cant find them. if anyone knows a way to find them, it would be much appreciated to know.

Gotta ask...so a full race weekend...or 70 min on track total? No practice...(15 min) and maybe 10 of qual....then a 25 min race right? So 35 min per day?
Yet you wonder why your racer lives so long...yet mine lasted 27.5 hours on track....but that is suspect? So that would be how many years of your car? About 23 events....or maybe 5 years?
What about the 175 hours on track my lemons racer lived? How long is that, with you driving a bunch of it.... on an unknown junkyard engine...no oil cooler, accusump or anything...how can that be?
Bottom line...its pure scientific theory...If your results can't be replicated then what are the worth? I know you built Scotts racer that hasn't ran in years & at a much slower pace than Casper...only barely faster than the Estate with 100+ more WHP.. (Estate was 193 scott was 293)
While we are friends...you really need to stop preaching the "stock 928 is fine" lie....it isn't...not even close...
BTW did I mention what the "stock" rod bearings inside Petty's 443 engine looked like?? Not good is an easy answer....but stock is better right?

Here is my data....The rod bearings from Ricks engine...the bad looking one is the #6 bearing...the better looking one is #2.... then a picture of whats left of my #6 rod...... This is what happens to 928 engines....other than MK of course
So he will say his warm up or pure lack of time on track, or used tires, or fairy dust, or whatever allows his 928 (which doesn't have 928 rod bearings anymore) to live...while every single other one has died...
All I know is this...I build every race 928 as an endurance racer...which means any driver, any track, anywhere....and I expect it to live....for a long time

who's engine is this???
anyway, Brian, no fairy dust here..... just another weekend, among the toughest competitors out there, the most prepared and the most experienced, and yet again, another successful weekend of taking the 928 to redline, pushing the car and surviving yet again!! YET , while others out there are blowing engine. Anderson blew up his engine too out there (the mustang)
mine is in fine working condition. all stock, no mods.
now, find me an engine that is in good working order to BEGIN with. (or built by someone that doesn't make mistakes , or at least has some experience) THEN, show me that motor on the track with good oil and smart care in warm up, maintenance, and driving, and ill show you a 928 engine that WILL survive and florish.
the holbert engine was beat up in every race ..... 7 pro races with WC GT. 120 race weekends. road America, buttonwillow several configurations, sears, t-hill, laguna etc, and never a problem. lots of rev limiter bangs! LOTS of them on video. yet, no issues AND we pulled the rod bearings and they looked perfect! oil filter never had a particle in it, and oil always came back from black stone with no issues. and as far as you being near as fast with Casper..... really?? one day you pull off a 2:01.xx with brand new slicks and even that is still 4 seconds behind my best at T-hill??? that's 100hp, but 200lbs more weight, AND real sticky tires. BUT, keep in mind, mark andersons best on the same tires vs me was only 3 seconds and he had 200 MORE HP and slicks vs my DOTs (1:33 vs 1:36 at the laguna pro GTGP race ) so, com'mon....... instead of trying to figure out why things are breaking, why don't you look at my set up and figure out why its WORKING! that might be a little smarter.
my results CAN be replicated. (if that's your definition of "scientific theory") . Ive done it, and did it with the holbert engine as well as the 84 motor that lasted a few years before that , and believe me , I put a LOT more track time than you on that car. I was racing 2 times a month and never missed a session, AND drove it to the tracks. Scot was racing as well, but has stopped yes, but that doesn't discount his survival. he even loaned me his car after my car was taken out by the Honda and I raced it 3 races in a row at laguna.
and trust me, you would have a hard time with scot at laguna in your car. his car is a little more HP, bare bones in the set up and the worst tires any of us have seen . it survived. and is still running strong.
my cars not magic Brian..... something im doing is different and you shouldn't discount it. (warm up, oil, technique, or how about this... known good engine from the start... )

The bearing is out of Rick Petty's old 4.5 the one that came out of the car to make room for the Euro you built for him.
Rod is from Brian's car , the last engine I blew up.
What's the story on Anderson blowing up an engine? Mark Anderson? Or Darryl?

as far as Darrell Anderson, its his new mustang. big bucks here, running 1:37s out at laguna on brand new A6s, with the best of the best of everything on it. full WCGTS car. it blew.. think its in the head, but might be a ring land. anyway.....THINGS BREAK RACING! BUT, our car , if set up well, does better than most ive seen and ive been doing this a LONG LONG TIME!!
So please brian.. how about this, the next time you show or talk about any 928 engine that has blow up, just make sure its an engine that has been newly rebuilt or is a known quantity.......... is using good oil, and is not a 4.5 liter.... OK?? then, I think the list will be real short. no more, I got a "good used " engine from Anderson and it blew up. I want, " I got a good used engine, spent the day, just pulling it apart and checking things, replaced rod bearings and rings and put it back together.
I think the blown engine list might be REAL short if you play by those rules!

We just did that. So we'll see how it goes.

I'm re doing the rod bearings in the 4.5 and it will be going into 52 for Chump Car. April 18-19
52 will get a duplicate of Casper's new engine provided the heads and cams survived. So we will have 2 cars with the same engine to evaluate and collect data from.

Mark,
What parts of the stroker in your racer are "all stock, no mods". Reason why the stroker is in there instead of the original Holbert engine? Didn't something fail on it? Didn't a crowd-funding effort get you back on the track again?
