Engine is ready for snap on. Transmission swap and brake upgrade next. I'd love to know what Porsche was thinking about when it decided to put the clutch master cylinder where it did.

Ok so I just went through upgrading brake booster from a 9" to 10" and all I have to say is - OH MY GAWD WHAT A PITA! Who would have imagined that 1/2" radially would have caused SO MUCH WORK. I cannot imagine doing that job with the engine in place.
Adding to the work is upgrading to Cayman rotors and calipers and eliminating the electric braking pressure regulators. Bending tubing and fitting in a proper fit was another chore made much easier without an engine in place.
I hope to have Inga running in a couple of weeks. Onto tranny swap...

I forgot to mention this early on. The donor car that this M28.12 engine came from VIN is WP022292ZES841614 an RoW car that came out of Canada and ended up in Florida - what an extreme

Well here are a few more pictures of progress made. Setting up for 996 brake upgrade, checking fitment and alignment (Please note the hardware is temporary). Have to shim out the rear mounts. Transaxle and rear suspension drop this week and renewal of consumables and wear points.

Hans inspired me to build my own dual fan setup using twin SPAL fans, a highly modified original shroud, 2" SS coupler and an aftermarket temp controller. Here is what this afternoon created. Cost: fans $125, controller with sensor $150, SS coupler and bushing $22, tube of urethane cement $20 and $1200 of my time. Doing it myself - priceless:-D

Do the brake setup photos show the caliper and rotor relationship the way it will be once the install is completed? If so, it seems like the rotor is not deep enough into the caliper, resulting in very little swept area which won't provide a lot of braking force. These photos show more optimal caliper/rotor setups, where the caliper and therefore the pads get much closer to the rotor hub, sweeping the entire rotor area. Maybe yours will look more similar in the final install configuration.

The rears were just hanging there. The fronts need some "trimming". More pictures to come.

Ok so for those of you out there thinking about buying a "cheap 928" with the intents of a mechanical restoration - think no further. Here is an average outlay of cash to embark on said journey. All the labor with exception to machine work is self-supplied.
It's a labor of love and a non-investment worthy project unless its a GTS or the first one off the line. Just remember that and you will be happy

You're way braver than me. I wouldn't dare to put my 928 bills into a spreadsheet
To be fair, you did start the hard way. Saving a car which runs and drives is much cheaper. I see at least $4k worth of costs in there which could be avoided by just buying a car with an engine and transmission which don't need replacement, but that wouldn't change the overall message in the cost equation.
Hat tip to you sir, for seeing it through and saving the car.

Yeah I knew it was a hopeless case But I'm a sucker for the psychedelic interior:-D I may not need a transmission, but I bought it right so I grabbed it just in case. But you are right shoulda started with a better specimen. But I am learning a lot about Porsche between this and the 944S I did last fall. Having fun is what counts. Next car will be a later model with low miles and expect to spend way more on purchase. This one is truly my frankenstein with all the illegal changes I made in the process of upgrading. Thanks for the encouragement!

So the Brembo monobloc conversion is a success! Total cost for all four corners - less than $2000!
