79 Convertible - Ebay
Normally this is ErnestSW's self appointed job, but he must be on vacation...
This sound's pretty nice, on paper. It's in Seatle,WA, transplanted from Hawaii.
No affiliation, just passin' it on, brutha.
I wonder if I can make my SAAB-convertible-girlfriend see the light and go for this one!
"Built from the ground up in 1996, all steel conversion, mechanically sound but needs cosmetic repair. All parts used in the update were O.E.M. Porsche parts. Over $ 65,000 invested. New white gages read 60k, but I would assume the miles are around 150K. There has been a lot of recent work done. i.e.; clutch, steering rack, brakes, water pump. I lived in Maui for the past 2 years and the interior has a lot of weather ware. The body work and the soft top have been constructed perfectly. There is no fiberglass on the car and Porsche parts used as much as possible. Even the connection between the windshield and soft top are Targa parts, the speedster cover is secured down with 911 door handles turned on tier side. Please keep in mind that the car needs TLC, but this car is definitely worth it!"

I think the back end is the right height, roughly.
The front is skewing the look, definately too low...
suspension wear?
Nicole - did you notice he's registered on German Ebay?

I spoke with the guy that owns it a while back when it was on ebay the first go around.
Based on the details I got during our conversation, I decided to pass on this one. I'll hold out for another. Even at $12K, this one will still need some $$$$ dropped into it to bring it back to 100%.
If someone here gets it, let me know.

Too bad his pics don't show the problems...kinda scary to mention them but not show. Don't know about your G.F. but my wife's whole attitude about my 928 problem has completely changed since she started driving our cab everyday.

Jay - what's the scoop?
karl - the main problem she gripes about are the non-height-adjustable sport seats. She's 5'4" and can't see over the headlights at night! I guess it's a lost cause anyways, she won't a drive stick shift.

the rear may be higher because the car is lighter with out the hatch and glass . Also some conversions they cut into the inner wheel wells to make room for a top to fold down which limited the room for wheels/tires so the car gets raised a bit . The different customizers tried to reinforce the floor pan in different ways . Some plated the rocker panels with additional steel plates (which is how topless 911s were done by Porsche ) others added 2x4 inch square channels under the floor some did both . It is a major compromise of the structure of the car when you remove the roof of ANY unibody frameless car and virtually impossible to recapture the original strength .

Everybody seems to have issues with the ride height. I shipped the car to Maui, and when it arrived 2 months later it had that low in the front look. I took the car into Lahaina imports, and they told me that the bouncing on the boat had wasted the springs. I wanted to update the suspention to s4, so I have not replaced the shocks and springs. As to the car condition, body work and conversion was done perfectly. I have never seen a better job. On the other side, I like to drive cars, so there is some cosmetic work needed on the interior and little things that need to be addressed, ie: door handle, window switch, ect. I have decided to sell car because of a move and wedding. I would recomend that anybody interested in car call me @ 206-632-2401 for details on condition. It will be on ebay for 2 more days and I am going to take the highest bid, as painful as it will be.
