Default Alternator cooling duct work around

Whilst working on removing my water pump [separate thread] I noticed this evening that my alternator ducting was shot such that I doubt any air couod flow through it.

Does anyone know of an elegant work around for this or do we just have to bite the bullet and stump up whatever the ducting costs. Could easily have have asked to put one in with my shipment of spares but did not know it was shot.

Regards

Fred

See Alternator Cooling Hose - $24.75 for 6 feet. I tackled this problem a few years ago and my efforts are shown in post #15 in that thread. I also had to deal with it on short notice, so I wound up using locally-sourced defroster hose.

Ditto on that- did it last fall, didn't expect it to last (esp. w/out the protection of an S3 front spoiler), but had it up on the lift for the last couple of days and it looks fine. Good temp fix, IMHO.

The stock hose material was not really great - so local aftermarket standard spiral wired hose can be a reasonable choice anyway. I'd think it would be easy to find a better hose than stock if you can shop around a bit.

IIRC Roger has a less expensive alternative.

I used carburetor pre-heater hose (Aluminum) as a temporary fix, bought from the local accessory store ($8?)The original hose was still there but falling to bits.

That was more than 5 years ago and it still looks fine, I will eventually get the hose Roger sells.

I've used both Roger's hose and the stuff from 928intl.

Both work fine - I prefer the aesthetic of 928intl's, but roger's will probably stand up better to oil/grime/age.

Thanks for all the tips guys. Pity I did not spot this dog's breakfast earlier. Indeed it may explain an earlier alternator failure. Unfortuantely it was too hot at the time for me to crawl under the car.

Not sure what I will be able to find over here- sometimes one is surprised at what is available and at other times completely stumped.

Regards
