Back in the saddle after being in a remote location with no access to "public" internet. Nice to see all the comments. On thing is for certain, once sorted, and then maintained, the 928 is a truly "ageless" work of art, that hates sitting.
Like we say in Texas, " Ain't no substitute"!

Ya'all R crazy.

There's a poll to be found in here somewhere....but the variables are tough to overcome.

Could be there's a correlation between perceived reliability, and "sunny day" use patterns.

Or could be there's one between those that reserve theirs for limited use, and the degree of overhaul & level of care they can lavish on the car during down times. Tackling a full suspension or upper engine or oil pan/motor mount refresh or TT/drivetrain over a winter, sure ought to make for a solid ride during a few sunnier months. Just sayin, for a DD that might constitute 'down time' while for a seasonal/pleasure car that stuff can be handled during intended layup period.

Then there are the heuristics regarding those that want to roll with a fully squared away no rattle tracks perfect all features fully functional no vacuum leak functions as from factory car, and those that are willing to deal with a noise, feature, bulb, specification (thinking steering & suspension tolerances) that is a little looser than new.

I think, after 3 cars and 20 years of near consistent ownership which I figure is somewhere mid-pack..but whether median or mean is beyond me....that keeping a 928 in near-optimal condition while in DD service is really challenging.

Mine have all been mid eighties build quality- good for the period but 30 years and 80-120K miles is a big envelope that captures the service life of many, many components in my opinion. Not that there's anything wrong or unexpected about that.

All that said, Marine, IIRC you went through a pile of work to get to this point-- congratulations!

Thanks Cape, you must have read my " what make a good car great" posting where everything was listed and totaled up. My saga was a lot easier than most, due chiefly to the great condition and care taken by the PO. A lot of the work was material related because of age than actual condition. Also, great care had been taken by the PO's mechanic to make sure every bolt had been properly coated and torqued.
I had no issues with removing anything other than the usual space constraints.
Some of the other owners have had issues that would have made a broken man out of me. They are the real hero's.
Love the yacht, and cruiser, a nice twin engine Beech Craft would round things out...
