Man I like playing some of the trance club music from Denmark or Netherlands, that rhythm and base beat gets the heart racing especially in the early morning mist we have on the coast in Houston. At 0400 in the am there is no traffic on the Beltway and you can literally see the holes you are punching in the air..
It ends way too soon..

Ditto - in April 2014 I will have had my GTS for 14 years too - driven almost every day. Has never failed to get me home, driven in all weather and has even seen a little snow, lots of rain, a great deal of sun & heat. Many long distance trips several well over 1000 miles. Never even consider reliability to be an issue.

These cars were made to be driven - in all weathers. I was originally planning to drive it occasionally - after 2 weeks of ownership I realized I didn't actually want to drive anything else... changed the plan - sold the other car.

I make it a point to drive my 928 at least once a week, minimum, granted there is no snow on the actual roads. Once I get better tires on her, she'll see more rainy days (I don't trust Sumitomo rubber). Each and every fix brings her reliability up so she ends up seeing longer and longer mileage trips.

I can't wait until she's fully sorted out then I can work on paint and interior and then she'll be my daily.

Wife and I were talking about the irony this morning, 3 am, freezing cold air outside, while snugged up inside, cruising across the top of Indiana in the 928.

Its 29 years old and it was the most reliable thing in the driveway at the moment, that's why we drove it.

Commuted to work last week in snow and ice. 50lb bag of salt, 50 lb bag of sand in back, shovel, snow less than 3 inches deep, good to go.

The car had been given up for dead a few years ago. Even Stan Shaw, who helped me buy it, said he thought it was a parts car.

I couldn't bring myself to drive my 928 in winter, especially this winter. We have craters, not potholes, on every single road. On the highway, you can hear and feel the sand and salt kicked up by the car in front sandblasting the windshield and front end of the car. The 928 may not be worth more than the daily driver but I suspect most people treat a daily driver as an appliance. I waited a long time to get the 928, i choose not to destroy it in a few months time.

+1 Hugo, the salt isn't good either.

I don't like the old motor being at 10F then going to operating temp and back down so quickly over and over in the winter.
It can handle it, but I'd rather take the truck.

I just keep the Porsche parked during the real cold months nowadays.

To the original comment, in 2 years my 928 hasn't hiccuped, the rest have.

I drive my 928 in all weather every day, but that doesn't say much because I live in SoCal.

I drive it in rain but avoid the freeways when it rains because the idiots around me tend to not look when changing lanes.... and don't know how to handle a car on wet and oily roads.

It has never let me down mechanically, even though the original brakes are pathetic on my 81.

I also drive my 928 every day, all year in Chicago. I drive the other cars when the weather is nice, but the 928 is the workhorse. For 30 years old, that's pretty good.

When I first met David Lindsey of Lindsey Racing he had a 2nd owner NSX. He almost never drove it keeping the miles off for better resale. it never saw even a drop of rain. When he sold it he said it was a big mistake because the difference in NOT driving it and Driving the Heck out of it on resale only amounted to about $1000.

Drive the heck out of it, but do keep up the maintenance And all the little things fixed..

I had planned on driving my GTS on a daily basis, but the nice paint just makes parking lots very scary. So now I'm trying to get my S4, which has some serious paint patina, up to reliable daily driver status so I can park the explorer. I though I had it there, except for rear wheel bearings, but on a test run this weekend to dropped the contents of the coolant reservoir on the ground. Sigh.

I wouldn't mind a little snow to try driving my 928 on-

Over here one does not like leaving the car out in the sun- used to use it to work when i had access to a sun shade.

Regards

Like Bilal, my 928 has been a DD for 14 years. It's the only car I have. However, I've always had a number of motorcycles, so the 928 is my BAD weather vehicle. No garage queen for sunny days only. It's been run hard and put away wet many, many times and was only towed once in its life - when a freak snowstorm in the Sierras in late May made it impossible for me to get over Donner Summit on my race tires.

Sorry, but your puny Texas snow does not impress we of the northern hinterlands. However, we are amused.
