Jim I am sorry to tell you that you may be feeling unwell on Saturday and need to take some time off to eat medicinal skeets.

Caught wind of this event, I might swing by to look at your pretty cars when you're in Waco

If you guys need a safe place to work on a car or even just a restaurant recommendation (spoiler: it will be Vitek's), drop a line!

If ya want to make things interesting, I can let you carry my range bag with both hands just before you head back to the airport.

I'm actually planning to make it home the same day I leave. Plus, don't want to screw up my TSA pre-check status. All it takes is one awh-****, and I'm doomed to the regular long inspection lines with shoes and belt off, carry bags dumped out. Fooled 'em into letting me into the program once, not sure I could pull it off again.

As always, the DFW group does everything big and with style. New friends now since the last visit, and a chance to visit with many already-familiar faces.

I suspect that I sat in SG's normal seat, causing my breakfast to come last. Worth the wait though. Great choice of breakfast spots.

We had a surprise guest, one of the drivers from Porsche's 928 Daytona 24 race in 1984. Shared with us some of the history of the event, including landing the last qualifying spot (70th on the grid), but finishing fourth in class. Said the CA was really smooth compared with the 911 rides he was used to. Pictures and lots of good discussion. Roger asked about the transmission, of course. Apparently, the car did well in spite of being handicapped by the 5-speed box the factory installed...

Great to see everybody, and look forward to my next opportunity to visit.

DR Bob - always a pleasure to see you and thanks again for all you do for the 928 community. Breakfast was nice and the McLaren 12C was a real treat for all.

The visit by Bob Hagstead was very special even though he was very soft spoken - Porsche 928 Factory Race Car Driver at the 1984 24 Hours of Daytona. The team, made up of Bob Hagestead, Vick Elford and Richard Atwood started last and finished 15th.

They started in 70th and finished 15th after Porsche told them to slow down as they were making the factory 911's look bad.

I was really surprised that they used a crappy 5 speed instead of the awesome RogerBox. They would have finished first then.

Good run down to Waco and a few hours shooting Skeet and Trap. Great to see the younger members shooting for the first time and enjoying it.

As always Laura's organization ensured all ran smoothly including an awesome lunch at the Hilton in Waco - I am sure many will post pictures. The chef created our own 928 burger.

Great 928 GTG. We will have to do that again – perhaps an Annual Event? Thank you to Roger and 928sRus for Skeet & Lunch!

Our adventure at the Skeet & Trap Shoot started out pretty punny.
Me to Skeet Range: Do you accept Credit Cards?
Range: Yes. We take Visa, Mastercard, Discover AND American Express – you know everything that most people don’t.
Me: Do you take the Target Card?

We started out shooting Trap (or Traps, or Trapes). And I hit one of those I was happy. There were a couple of 20-gauges out there, and a few 12-gauges, including Sean’s which had an automatic Safety which engaged EVERY time he shot. Particularly hilarious was when KillaV would have to pull for Sean multiple times before Sean could get his shot off. “Pull…Dammit….Pull…DAmmit…Pull” …(followed by a KillaV’s)… ”Again?”…

Mercedes showed us that Heels are a fashion accessory at a Skeet & Trap Shoot (you go girl). She will definitely be a sight to see at Cars on Ice in Canada in a few months. Her and I will be working, but hopefully we can have some time off during to at least take a break here and there  It’s a Tough Job but Somebody’s Gotta Do It.

Paul brought his adorable two sons and a over-under 20-gauge. I think a few of us tried that one out, including me, now I know what I want for Christmas. Smooth is a word I would use to describe that one (KillaV take note).

Little Michael came with us, who is now counting down the days to our next trip to Waco so he can go Skeet shooting again. He “killed” many more clays than I. He also tried out Paul’s 20-gauge over-under and he also wants one. (KillaV take note – Thank you Paul).

Roger brought his Beautiful Beretta 12-gauge (please correct me if I’m wrong on the gun). Mike and I both tried that one out. Very NICE. I didn’t hit anything with that one, but you definitely know you are holding a BIG gun when you got that thing in your hands.

Roger was very good at giving all of us who needed instruction. It was very sweet watching him giving instruction to Mercedes – who bravely He gave me some pointers too. I hit probably 3, maybe 4 pigeons, and scared the tail feathers off a couple more.
Fish also brought his “game” to the shoot, as did Adrienne and Andy.

After the shoot a few of us who remained took our sore (some bruised) shoulders to the Hilton for Lunch where we were surprised with our own special “menu” which included a “928 Burger”. This burger was aptly named. It had the best of all restaurant ingredients. May have also been named the “Epic Burger” – it was AWE-SOME The Sous Chef makes from scratch some delicious goodness called Bacon Jam. Heavenly. All the ingredients together (including the beef she hand picks from the Meat Market) made this the BEST DAMN BURGER (heretofore referred to as “928 BDB”)KillaV and I have ever Had before… EVER and we consider ourselves Burger connoisseurs. I don’t know what show this 928BDB would qualify for, but we definitely need to get this one on TV!

Most of us at the table opted for the 928BDB for lunch. We couldn’t turn down it down. It’s size was one of epic proportions. The plate itself was over-sized, but it completely fit the over-sized burger (at least the meat was oversized and was slightly larger than the bun which was a two thumbs up in my book). The tiny ketchup bottle which came with the plate for the fries was adorable, but halfway through the burger one had to decide is it worth eating more fries if you can’t finish the burger? After some mental calculation - my stomach told me to stop eating the fries and make more room for this 928BDB. There would be no room for dessert…so we thought.

The Sous Chef, noticing the delight on our faces and stretching and yawning that was going on, knew what we were all about to say…There would be no room for dessert. Thankfully for us, she was not about to let the Absolutely Beautiful Flight of Desserts she had prepared for especially for us go to waste. As quickly as the lunch platters disappeared, a cart full of our previously prepared desserts Appeared. OMG it was a feast for the eyes as well as for the mouth. Tuxedo Cake, Fruits, Peanut Butter Mouse, a tropical fruit banana pudding, a Coconut Macaroon of some sort and a Miniature Rootbeer Float to Top it all off. I don’t know how or where, but I managed to fit it all in. I am a huge big fan of the Waco Hilton Restaurant now. Thank you, Hilton, Donald Green and Sous Chef for setting this up for us. It was delicious.

A HUMONGOUS Thank You to Roger Tyson and 928sRus for Lunch and the Skeet & Trap Shoot. It was a wonderful memory with great People. Loved it! Enjoy the pics below. (more pics coming in our photobucket account).

What Rog said.

Had an absolute blast and my stomach still hurts from the damn good food. My shoulder is sore from blasting targets (tried to).

Great to see Dr. Bob again and wish we'd had more time to chitchat.

Wish I could have made it. Can you shoot skeet with a Benelli M4 Tactical??? As I recall, Chumlee brought one to a skeet shoot challenge on Pawn Stars and, well, it didn't go so good.

My dad bought me that single shot 20 guage when I was 13 years old. It was a hoot getting to let Mikey shoot that same gun nearly 30 years later. Even though it was seriously outclassed by the over/under Weatherby 20, that single shot 20 ga will always be the first he shot.

Thanks again to Roger and company for all the countless coins dropped into the skeet machine, and thank you very much for lunch.

And those were some damn good burgers for sure. The hotel made an extra so we boxed that dude up and I am about to half that sucker!!!

Thanks to Roger and his family for a great event, Sean for the lift and conversation, and Laura for her impeccable planning. Breakfast, caravan down and back, skeet shoot and lunch at the Hilton...all first class as is the norm with 928sRus. Great to meet Dr Bob, John, Mike V, Paul and everyone else I may have missed. Yesterday blasting down I-35 in Sean's supercharged '88 today snowed in, such is the way in Texas.

I was in the area for the past couple weeks. It was mid-70's the day I arrived, with daytime temps from high 60's to low 80's the whole time. Flew out Saturday mid-afternoon after the breakfast, rental car showed 83º as I dropped it off. Saturday night there after I left was 20º, sleet and snow on Sunday. Of course, heavy rain with mudslides in Socal while I was gone. Cleared up nicely within a day of getting back.

Good news is that I'll be able to bring some more good SoCal weather to Texas again soon. In the meanwhile, stay warm and safe.

I wish I really was that good, but I know better....
