How do they compare to the 8" H4? It would seem that those of us with the 8" H5s could upgrade to the 8" H4s for less money than a set of these 7" LED headlights. (Not only do you need to buy and install the LED headlights, but you'll need to buy and paint the trim rings.) The LEDs would have to be a lot better, I would think, to make them preferable to the 8" H4s. The only obvious advantage I can see would be reduced power consumption.

Do the LEDs, compared to the 8" H4s, light up the road that much better? Upgrading my lights is something that's on my to-do list and I'm very willing to consider LEDs (or HIDs, if that can be done without blinding other drivers). I just don't see an obvious appeal to these if the 8" H4s already produce more than adequate illumination.

In 8" H5's this cannot be done, even in 8" H4's I'd say it's marginal.

I'd like to see more details on the LED's, I too am having a hard time getting past the looks (especially the visible bolts), and the need for trim rings... But in the end functionality is certainly very important too.

Just don't use the Jeep conversion. Please.

It makes it the car look like it has a thyroid problem. NTTAWWT.

Last I looked the good LED conversions were uses a several months old Cree emitter as used in home lighting applications.

This is an area where waiting is prudent. Lots of potential, but needs a clean slate design for auto use.

Default Trim ring

Sean,

What am I missing here? why would the trim ring need to be painted or black? I would think the chrome ring would look best like the stock 7" setup.

On the S4's you do have to get the early trim ring painted body color or black otherwise it will look stupid. Only reason I've not done it on my own is we are trying to come up with a modification to put a projector beam in the 8" headlight.

Mount one of these on its own switch for those dark country roads--might slow the car down though when you flip it on...

I would only use that on a vehicle for track use.
