Default 1985 S2 5.0L 32V - Exhaust Valve search

Hi,

Hey I am searching replacement exhaust valves due to them being destroyed by their previous owner.

Looking on the net I have seen prices which vary around $200 each which means the full set will be $3200.

Is there another source for these valves and are they expensive because they were a special for the 85 & 86 cars??

Great to get your feedback!

Carl

Sometimes it's cheaper to buy a comple good used head. That's what I did back in '01. $250.

How many do you need? All 16 or just a few? I have one head from an 86 and both from an 85.

Have you contacted Roger?
I know S4 valves are around $15/each. I doubt S3 are much more if at all.

New S3 inlet & outlet valves are hard to find OEM. Go with used from 928 International.

Thanks Roger
New valves are over $200 these days which makes buying a used head for parts very appealing

Hi Guys,

Sorry guys yes I meant S3 which was originally my parts car now it may be my main driver if I can get her going. I will search for a complete head but will need to get it shipped to NZ so no that simple.

Cheers I will check 928 International.

This is an opened ended question but as my parts car engine came in a million pieces what is the main items I need to account for? My other car is an 82 Euro S so the engine is worldly different.

Thanks Carl

Hey there,

I am pretty sure I need all 16 valves but as I am based in NZ getting the heads here will be a bit of a mission. I have had a 5 speed trans shipped about 10 years ago so I know it is possible.

If you are selling how much are you asking?

Cheers Carl

Hi Carl,

You might want to contact Matt Nicholson here in Sydney; he has a couple of S3 heads in good condition including cam caps, valves/springs etc. (they came off an engine I picked up at a local auction - the short block has since gone into a local racer). Shipping may be cheaper than from the USA.

PM me for his contact details if you're not on the landshark list.

Maybe a good idea before you go much further to post all the details on the car, such as vin and motor ID to remove any chance of mixing up which of the three very different motors made during that period you have.

Do you need all 16 exhaust valves for the S3? I have a good set I can sell.

The valve identification number is: 928 105 642 01. I am in the process of working out how many valves are damaged. Hopefully this removes the need to post the entire vehicle VIN etc.

Let me know if I need to provide more info.

Cheers guys!
