Default timing setting

Guy,
i got my rogerUS kit today, now i want to replace it all..

but when i set my crankshaft to 0T cylinder 01 is at its lowest point instead of TDC.
cylinder one i take it the the one thats the first on the left side standing infront of the car, as my inginiton wire states..

my car is a porsche 928 from 1984.

Probably someone put on the harmonic balancer backwards. It's a right of passage (and a bad design).

That's odd.

But does flipping the harmonic balancer over and installing cause the tdc mark to move 180 degrees?

Maybe time for a coffee.

Be careful to set the cams in a position that will not cause the valves to interfere with the pistons if you turn the crank.

Is an '84 a non-interference engine?

Duh, only if the TDC mark is in line with the key groove.

If it is 90 degrees off, flipping will make it 180 degrees off.

Caffeine is wonderful stuff.

To tell if the crank is set to #1 TDC,
the woodruff keyway will be pointing to the 4 O clock position, while your facing the engine crank.

NOTE 45 BTDC will be at the 3 O clock position.

NOTE the damper should be easily read while facing the engine
IE the numbers should not be upsidedown.
posting pictures will add more detail

NOTE where #1 cylinder is in the posted picture
