My '83S is no super car any more but it's a Porsche and 970 lbs lighter than the new 305 HP V6 Mustang with solid rear axle. They weigh over 3500 lbs.
I'd be embarrassed to be seen in a new V6 Mustang even if it can outrun me

The voice of insanity here:
- Non metallic blue 928s are super rare, and that is an especially lovely color. A good clean and buffing might take that paint a long way. It would still have patina, but look a lot better.
- I have come to love the lines of an early non-S not S4 car. No spoilers, original concept bumpers. Yum.
-I have not had a properly running non S CIS car. I had a well running L jet car, a CIS S car, a S4 and a GTS. None of these cars ever felt like they were really lacking power. I had poorly running non S CIS motor in one of my cars for a while and the power did not feel great, but that could have been the poorly running part. Also I do not like the non S breaks, but you can upgrade to S breaks for a couple hundred bucks.
- Folks have said that you could put 10K in the car. That would not be smart. Pretty much for sure it will need: WUR ($200), fuel pump ($150), front seat recover ($850), tires ($500), battery ($100), misc relays, hoses, belts, leather dash mat, wipers etc. Call it $2K plus a ton of elbow grease. So for $3K and a lot of work you have a lovely car with some patina that represents the original concept of the 928 that would be a joy to drive and own.
Yes, you could get trounced by a new mustang. But that is true for a GTS also, and with the GTS you have pinging and oil ingestion issues that you would not have with the early car, and if something goes wrong with the GTS motor you are looking at 10K best case, while with the CIS car you can get a nice used motor with warranty from Mark for $750 during his holiday sale. I would not think of the car as competing with a new mustang.....more a 1970 XKE. Elegance and style. With performance and comfort that are reasonable for real driving. How much money do folks pour into 356s, or XKEs? And those are just not cars that you would want to drive up the 5 or anywhere for very long.

I was just thinking the same. Why compare our classic Porsche to new autos?
Never understood this. A 70HP 356 owner or an air cooled 911 owner would not.
Porsches were never about straight line fast anyway.

You are crazy....when I began looking for my first I was lucky enough to drive several early cars. I was VERY disappointed with their performance. Enough so that I almost abandoned the whole idea of buying a 928. I waited and finally fell into an 87 we'll sorted rennlist members car.
Get the gts...... No question

I don't see a sunroof on the GTS, or is it just me? If it doesn't and no rubstrips and a 5-speed... wow.
If you really like arrow blue and have the cash, buy Jame's blue-82 (for sale in the December Pano.)
