Default rear main seal

I have an 83 928 auto with what looks like a rear main seal leak. Do I need to pull the engine to replace it. I replaced the pan gasket two years ago so I don't think it's leaking. Oil is dripping down around the starter, not to bad but I hate oil leaks. Thanks in advance.

Before you go in and change things, clean everything up very good, top to bottom at the rear of the engine. There is a chance that what you have dripping is due to a bad rear cam seal. Once you get everything cleaned up, go drive a bit and re-check all of it again.

Being an automatic, you don't have to pull the engine but will have to get the flex plate out of the way to get to the flywheel bolts. You might have to unhook the transmission and move it back a couple inches to get room to remove the plate. Good luck, it's not exactly fun.
