You might try listing it on uship and see what the bids are. http://www.uship.com/ I had good luck with them when shipping my transmission core back to Greg Brown.

Besides the TB/WP, also to consider on a car that has sat, is the blue hose part of the clutch slave hydraulics. This can also leave you stranded, not fatal to engine, but stranded nonetheless. I'm the original anti-salt guy, so considering the weather and the maint. issues, I would ship.

Default I too also just acquired a '86 928 S

In November '13, I finally broke down and bought an '86 928S 5-Spd. Been driving it a bit, belt/wp are in good condition but it still needs some work done on it.

I have been reading the list - still looking for the best solution for fixing the rear-hatch lock/release.

But hope to see you seen at local events.

Just to be clear, the car is in my shop after being put into a snowbank on the drive to KC from what I understand. It took 6 hours for packed snow to melt out of the front end. I have replaced an alternator belt which was ripped off due to snow pack, having the fender painted due to scratches and the entire car polished and the battery replaced, and the ripped chin spoiler replaced. The seller is paying to have the inspection done on what might have been damaged from the off road excursion, those items fixed which I mentioned, but not a PPI on the rest of the car. If Tim wants a PPI, I will be glad to do it. I'd hate for it to get to Chicago with the understanding that the seller was paying me to inspect the entire car and fix anything I found wrong with it, when that is not the case, and have it come back around on me Also misunderstood was that I said the timing belt could not be inspected, which is not true. It can be inspected, but without records, unless it is brand new and the printing hasn't worn off, there is no way to visually inspect a belt and know with 100% certainty of the condition.

Interesting story, driver lost it in the snow and decided the car had to go away...because it could only have been the car's fault

So now a PPI would be a GREAT idea for several reasons, very nice of Doc Wilen to add his clarification...

I believe it went into the snow on the way to KC to meet Tim to complete the purchase. Crappy weather conditions unfortunately. Luckily it was all minor stuff and no major damage.

Thanks for throwing in the other side of the story Doc! I was actually able to call back a couple days ago and clarified the TB check with another mechanic there, you all have been extremely helpful so far.

Anyways, I'll give you guys a call tomorrow to check out an ETA and see about getting a PPI done. Thanks again for all your help.
