Default I want EURO style H4 headlights

My 79 currently has Hella H4 bulbs in the seven inch variety. I want to switch over to the 8 inch EURO version and ditch the chrome rings. I was thinking of sourcing some from overseas. I am assuming that there are varieties configured for Right hand driver and Left hand drive. Is this the case? I can get a set from GB but not sure they will be configured correctly (RHD). Any help appareciated!

RHD has a different focus from LHD. Serious bucks to go from 7" to 8", as usual the best sources are one of the main 928 suppliers in the USA; www.928intl.com or 928srus.com

Don't get a set from the UK, the lenses are set up for right hand-drive. You need two of the LHD, 928 631 101 03 lamps. There's a '24467' stamped in the lens glass, if there's any question.

Thanks! So I am assuming that I also need whole assemblies as the bucket is different as well?

I congratulate you if you want to stick with the RoW option for correctness, but you could also convert to the S4 8" headlights. The modifications required are listed elsewhere on here, from what I recall they aren't extensive.

I go to some great lengths for correctness and originality but in this case, my car is a US spec 928 so I am allowing myself some transgressions The H5 is a good option for me, I am aware they are less bright but this car is not a daily driver and will likely never see foul weather again. I am going for the "look" more than anything.

only real mod for H-4 is bolt them on...same bucket you just discard the 911 parts used to adapt to hold USA sealed beams and of course that stupid chrome plastic filler trim . The mod for H-5 is a different plug for the different bulb terminal configuration for the H-5.

The 7" H4s you have are far better lights than the H5s - it's not just brightness, it's pattern and focus.

Going from 7" H4s to 8" H5s is a step backwards.

Honestly you'd have to be a bit of a moron to pay more for new USA DOT H5s than for new ROW H4s.. particularly if you were starting with 7" H4s. You'd have paid big money to move from the second best lighting on a 928 to the 2nd worst. You will also have to do a connector swap for H5s that you wont need on H4s.

For no money you can stick with what you have - for less than new H5s you can get real new H4s... the answer is obvious.

The only good thing about H5s is how they look - functionally they are crap like all DOT headlamps of that era...

Get 8" H4 or do nothing those are the only real options here. You will get the whole pivoting frame - you may possibly need new yokes - I didn't on a late model car - but others have mentioned needing them - but honestly I think they were wrong...? If needed late model S4 yokes will work you dont need ROW specific ones, you will need 4 metric nylock nuts to mount these to the yokes. You should already have everything else you need.

Alan.

Quite true. I forgot to mention that my current 7 inch h4 have toasted reflectors so replacement is in the cards. With that said, I am going to stay on course with 8 inch h4 and hunt down a good deal if such a thing exists. Thanks
