Default Question about retractable headlights and speed!

Hi,

Just curious about something: is there any recommendation or warning not to pop up your headlights above a certain speed?
I was on the highway and was getting darker, so it was time to pop up my headlights, I was travelling at about 120/140 Km/h and with my hand on the headlight **** I start wondering if it will be wise to slow down before turning the ****!
After about 1 minute with my hand on the **** I slowed down to about 60 km/h and, of course, no problem with the headlights coming up.
But, although I believe the headlight motor is strong enough, I’m sure it’s not the same to turn on the retractable headlights with the car stopped, travelling at a slow speed or travelling at highway speeds or even faster…
Maybe this is a stupid question but what are your opinions/advises on the subject?
TIA for your answers.

Regards

Interesting question, more for the fact that I think this is the last thing on my mind whilst I'm cruising the highway at dusk.

There's nothing in the manual. No warnings in this regard. I think Ferry designed these cars to go fast, so I'm sure its not a problem whatever speed you are going.

They're designed to break through a layer of ice....I don't think wind is going to be an issue.

The system has sufficient power to drive the link from the motor to the transverse bar thru the radiator in a heartbeat if the E-clip comes off - I think that it would lift the lights at any speed.

Good point Wally, if they can break thru the radiator if the E-clip is not in place, sure they support a lot of wind speed!
Thanks!

I think headlights go up at any speed, but top speed drops 5 mph. Don't open sunroof over I think its 120 mph. I don't think windows have any restrictions.

actually there is a spring loaded catch which if too much ice and snow it unlocks the headlight so you do not bend those expensive alloy fenders...

Opening the roof at speeds in excess of 100 causes a LOT of turbulence inside the car. Car cover bag in the boot area made 3 laps very quick of the cockpit before getting sucked out the roof at 120. Busy enough driving that I decided it was better to just let it go than try to capture it.

Doc, I'm glad you lived to tell the tale.
You're too valuable a resource for us to lose, but that would be a video on you-tube I would enjoy watching.
Can we use paid actors to do a re-creation for us?

Page 35 of my owners manual..."Do not operate the sliding roof at driving speeds exceeding 62mph or 100 km/h. The force to overcome wind resistance at higher speeds may cause damage to the sliding roof. "......

Even without sucking out the car cover !

Note this was the car cover --bag--, like small pillowcase with a drawstring. A group of touring 928's had just carefully blown past a crowd of touring Harley riders. Then as we rolled back up to speed. I opened the roof to wave thanks to the riders for the wave-by. Whup-whup-throoop and the bag was gone. I reclosed the roof panel.

Disclaimer - non-professional drive on open road course. Don't try this at home without adult supervision. Potential for serious side effects. Consuld a doctor for erections lasting more than four hours... yeah right!
