LOL...Mike Bill posted the TSB and I added it to this thread...do you need coffee today
I called the shop and informed them of the TSB earlier...I didn't mention that in my earlier post apparently.
If this doesn't fix the problem there will be a parts car available soon

It'll get fixed. Something was just overlooked. Shoot, I'll take her off your hands That car is way too nice to let some rattle be the end. I'll just add a supercharger to drown it out.

Stick with it. Almost there. At least you are educating a shop.

I'd also throw a hard stop on their plan to remove the trans and take it to the trans shop.

its making the noise now.
It will be difficult to recreate post-disassembly;
For crikey sake bring the trans person to the car and have the two shop reps duke it out, preferably in your presence...because somebody ought to be comping some labor in my opinion.

Might due to add a link to this thread, in the thread recommending the lead shop.

We're pullin' for ya.

I called the shop to set the plan in motion to have the transmission guy look at the whole car. Apparently the DID bring the transmission guy in there Wednesday and was under the lift with the Mechanic and there was no AHAH moment. Much more head scratching. The shop just didn't want to have them take the whole car because they don't have much in the way of parking and the car would be left outside.
I have referenced this thread several times and pointed out some threads related to repairs that have been similar or at least sounded similar to my situation.
Let me say that I don't think they are trying to screw me here. I'm annoyed that they have had the car for a month, fixed a ton of stuff, rebuilt the torque tube, transmission and the problem persists. My biggest issue is the lack of visibility into what is going on. I feel like a pest calling them and dropping in but I feel like I need to manage this somehow. Am I wrong in feeling this way?

No. Not at all.

You have paid out a fair amount of money, and they HAVEN"T fixed the problem.

They have fixed things that aren't the problem.

You have, IMO, the right to ask that they not fix anything else that isn't the problem. And if they find what they think might be the problem, you should be there for the discussion.
Or get an agreement that anything that they fix that isn't the problem doesn't cost you. (which isn't going to happen)

Take the reins and be in control. They've fixed problems just not the the one you came in for initially and pretty much everything appears to be resolved so the only thing now is just that rattle. Once they fix it, I would ask if they can cut you slack on the cost since it took them so long.

I feel really bad since I was recommending them. I believe they're an honest shop with no BS, just sucks that they're stumbling on this problem.

Man it's such a low milage car, you shouldn't be having these kinds of problems! Might be cheaper to fly in Sean for a look-see and troubleshooting. I don't know much about automatics.

This ^^^^^^

I did it. Worth every penny. Pay for his flight and pay his time there. You'll be happy. Other choice is ship the car to Greg Brown.

If worse comes to worse, get the car back and Facetime or Skype more expertise while it's in the air on jack stands and have a bunch of other local eyes on it. Can also PM GregBBRD ((714) 879-9072) and get his impressions. He's the rennlist resident 928 transmission guru.

No ding on Sean (I promise!) but isn't Stan geographically nearer the area as well. Either might be able to advance the cause through a conversation and someone holding up the cell phone! Glad to hear the Techs had already had that undercar consult, that's good even if it didn't reveal the desired outcome.

There are a number of vids posted on the forum, often from Y/T, regarding noises, have you tried to search/compare from those? Just a thought.

This is a video I found that most closely resembles the "rattle" noise I hear

That's the sound my daughters Audi made when the flex plate had a crack in it.

You need to befriend your south-of-DC bretheren.

Remember, the attenuation of noise is bizzare with 928.

Front noise will come from back.. Back from front. The 928 is a massive enigma. That's why only the crazies work with them.

I have held the flex plate in my hand and visually inspected it. No cracks and flat. Wish it was that simple
