Thermo fan 1981 928
Successfully removed the old clutch fan an installed an 18 inch thermo fan. I live in a hot tropical climate. The car sings so sweetly now throughout the rev range. No wrrrr from the fan now. The car runs just under half on the gauge with the air on. Sitting in traffic just above half. Very happy. I will take pictures when it stops raining.

I did the same thing on my 82 5 speed.
Removed air pump, electric fan, clutch fan and cat. Installed a FFDynamics fan kit off ebay and it works great. It fact it works too good and I had to adjust the potentiometer up to allow the engine to heat up a bit more. I may have to turn it back down in the summer.
I would suggest installing an idiot light somewhere inside to let you know when the fan is running in case you have a failure.
