Cold Start Valve
How can you tell if the CSV is sticking open on my 82 5 speed? The car starts and idles fine, but it seems to be getting very poor mileage.
I thought the MPG gauge was inop as it shows much lower mileage than did until very recently. If the valve is stuck would it show on the mpg gauge? Could the mpg gauge problem be a function of the throttle position switches or the part of the brain that sends the signal to the mpg gauge?
I checked the valve and it shows proper ohm resistance when warm and all vacuum lines seem to be attached. I cleaned the connectors on the CSV, the AFM and the temp sensors, but the gauge is still acting up.
The engine is a new rebuild and the mpg gauge worked fine until a couple of weeks ago. I have disconnected the battery to try to reset the brain, but nothing seems to help. Is this something I will just have to live with if the CSV is ok?
Thanks!

I just checked the temp II sensor. The ohm reading for 59-86F was right in the middle of 1.4 -3.6K ohms at 2.91k ohms. So I don't think it is the II sensor.
The exhaust does not smell rich. I will have to accurately measure my mileage on the next fill up to see what milage I am really getting.
Maybe the stupid MPG gauge is just inaccurate.

Greg, I did as you suggested and no leaks. The Cold injector seems to have proper ohm resistance, so I am thinking that is not the problem. I did check and clean the temp II sensor connections and the ohm reading is fine also. Does anyone have the ohm resistance for the gauge temp probe? But it seems to be working ok too.
Could the mixture need to be adjusted if the car is running rich causing poor mileage?
My son just called and the mpg gauge seems to be working fine now after I cleaned all the connectors. If it wasn't the connectors and the gauge inaccuracy returns, could it be faulty readings from the FI brain or maybe the gauge is just inaccurate.
Thanks

check milage the manual way, OD readings and fill up info. that gauge is not really that great. kind of like the volt gauge..... it shows what it wants.
if your not getting a rich smell from the exhaust, and the Cat (if you have one) is not glowing red and catching on fire, then you are fine.
check the plugs to see how they are doing. that will tell you way more that that dumb gauge

I will check mileage the manual way. Plugs look good, but they are less than 2000 miles old. Funny, I had the same troubles with the voltmeter until I cleaned every ground and refreshed the the fuse panel. Now it is steady 13ish volts unless AC and megawatt amp is blasting.
