Sorry to hi-jack your thread but I have the same issue on my 82... But mine is running horribly rich. Black cloud of un burnt fuel rich. At idle it seems fine but as soon as you put the peddle down it's like a bond car(and no it isn't oil). I am getting like 6mpg.

Here is a list of things I have done and changed so far:

The '82 928

Things done so far

1) spark plugs
2) replaced engine vacuum hoses
3) swapped fuel pumps
4) swapped MAF sensors
5) new 02 sensor
6) swapped Coolant temp sensor
7) swapped time temp sensor
8) new cold start valve
9) swapped green wire
10) cleaned 14 pin connector
11) swapped relays
12) checked vacuum advance unit in distributor
13) checked fuel return line
14) checked conductivity in spark plug wires
15) swapped ignition coils
16) replaced various engine fuel lines

Any other ideas gents? I hate seeing this baby collecting dust in the shop :-(.

Thanks,
Ramon Luce

82 should have a AFM, not a MAF unit. what do the plugs look like after running? fuel dampeners replaced?

Sorry yes AFM. The plugs look black just like the exhaust... But not wet as if they are fouling out. Fuel dampers?

Love your avatar btw. Had to buy the chic one of those shirts just because of that lol.

Thanks for the reply.

the fuel dampeners are the golden little pots on the fuel lines up front x2. regulator is in the back.

Sounds like you have a break in your fuel injector harness that goes to the AFM. I had the same result when I unplugged mine accidentally.

The only thing that can make it run that rich is a unplugged AFM, the fuel dampers and regulator change the A/F mixture some but not that much.

I do have an extra set of the dampers, and regulator... But I will check that harness out. That makes sense. I know when I unplugged it there wasn't a difference.

Thanks for the help gents!
