Trying to resolve a gas smell in cabin while driving
Hey gang! Back again. Last weekend as I was cruising about w the window cracked I would get an occasional whiff of fuel. Naturally I panicked and checked the engine bay for leaks and found none. No gas smell in the engine bay either.
Fuel lines are all new as are regulators and dampner. I swapped in a new (used) tank last year and there are no leaks back there. The FP is brand new as is the filter. It was my first suspect, but it is tight and dry.
So I was thinking Y connector after some research, but amazingly-it's completely in tact. I scrounged about and see this unconnected hose. It is coming from the charcoal cannister. Is it supposed to be plugged into that spot on the airbox that currently has that nipple cover on it? I'm not sure why someone disconnect it and let gas fumes just fill up the engine bay...what do you think?
As always, thanks in advance !

More picts, that one is a bit too close to get perspective enough to trigger my memory.
Big hose pointing up is from the air pump diverter. Hose coming from under the overflow doesn't look very old. Carbon canister is in the fender near there, but I recall that venting to the throttle body.
Do you have a cowl cover with rubber seal on the front along the firewall?

Thanks for the input Dan. The cloth braided hose is definitely coming from the canister--I wonder where it vents then? The hose is about an inch and a half short of plugging into the air box. I'll try and get a better perspective pic tomorrow.

So here's a PET image of the hose (hose #8) and where it connects to the canister. Can someone chime in as to whether this braided hose plugs into the air cleaner box? I'm pretty sure that's what it says in the description--but I want to make sure! Thanks!

Split gas tank and fumes are being sucked up through the rear cargo area via the plastic cap(that just may be off) that covers access to the fuel level sender??....or perhaps the rubber grommets in the spare wheel well that secure the seal the electrical wiring may be push out and not in place anymore.???
Just some things I have seen.

Hi Colin,
That cloth covered hose should definitely connect to the nipple on the PS end of the air cleaner housing with a hose clamp. The big hose connects to the bottom of the air cleaner housing. For the cloth covered hose, you may have to replace or extend the hose if it is really too short.
Good luck,
Dave
