Have you checked to see whether it is '86 v. '86.5?

In terms of performance, you'll want to confirm trans fluid is at right level, that the cables are adjusted properly to allow WOT and kickdown, that the WOT switch is operating- it is a fairly frequent failure point, and that any vacuum leaks are tended to. There is an update to the B2 trans servo available, but not likely a front-burner concern. Also given the low miles- fuel filter and cleaning injectors or at a minimum checking plug color after some regular use will start to dial it in.

Once the baseline is good, swing by liftbars.com and check out the s300 chips, or find the exhaustive thread on here.
Thanks for the compliments all!

It is an early 86

Kickdown seems to be operating properly as well at the WOT switch, just not a fan of the 2nd gear start. A trans fluid change is in the works though.

My plan for the car right now is to get the minor issues sorted and ensure the engine is in tip top shape then look at an x-pipe/high flow cats and s300 chipset.

Default ohh nooo

So...second gear starts is one of those endless discussions/debates here, ample search material but none with a single silver bullet.

I'll post one view and the one I espouse and the one that is supported by factory literature that I have, that stipulates pre-87 should "move off" in first gear.

Second gear start in an early '86 is, in my opinion, indicative of vacuum leak or incorrect trans fluid level. Particularly if it goes into first when moving the lever down into '2' while stopped. All years should drop into first when leaving from a start in D and the switch under the accelerator is triggered and the WOT switch is triggered. Pre-'87 should leave off in first regardless. Anecdotal information shows some variability in this...but particularly given factory lit I think indications are that the anomolies are due to an undetected 'issue'.

Or, your car could have a later S4 type trans/valve body I suppose. Sure looks to have had too good a life for that!

In a pre 86 should it always be starting in 1st while in drive? Or only on WOT starts?

Default Pre S4 trans

In my opinion- always. ^^
Pre-'87 should leave off in first regardless.
Ref: Porsche publication WKD 490 521 Automatic Transmission A 28 Description of Operation.

My copy includes serial number decoding info through '86 MY and as such I do not believe the info only relates to pre-85 cars.

P. 18, "D=Drive. In this position the transmission will automatically shift up and down in all four gears depending on desired accelaration and road speed. The car always moves off in 1st gear...."

P. 23, "Initial Drive", "For moving off transmission always engages in 1st gear."

p. 27, "upshift 1st to 2nd gear between 14 and 15 mph

p. 40 TC testing: "..start engine, move selector to "D" (no difference to "2" or "1" , since on stopped car transmission always engages in 1st gear first!)."

Got the horn working! Bad relay.

Was taking a look at why the rear wiper isn't operating and noticed this:

Any idea where the brown wire is supposed to go? it wasn't attached to anything.

In other news I found the original manual from the factory radio, Pretty cool!
