Had a great time today, it was great to see some familiar faces, and to also meet some more RL's. Thanks Jeff for a great venue, looking for a business partner for my poncho rentals.

Another great time at the shooting lodge. Some highlights listed below:

Ran the pool table with 7 in a row until Kyle pulled off an incredible shot.

Fixed door lock...actuator kept binding lock. Thank you Sean and Roger

WE were gracious for attending? Please. It was a fabulous time at an awesome venue.

Started off by meeting everyone as they arrived &then spent the morning in the parking lot looking at & discussing each other's cars.
Then had an amazing lunch of brats & burgers. The burgers were not too rare, even though Jeff & his wife kept asking if they needed to be cooked more.
After lunch settled, went out back to play with the other "loud toys" (gas powered out front, gunpowder powered out back).
The rain ended that before it should have, but oh, well. I had Rob's wife Tracy shooting low powered loads out of my 357, Richard & Bryon really enjoyed the opportunity to shoot (they are from Australia & Canada and don't have access).
Sat around for a bit, then started playing pool. I stunk, but I haven't touched a cue stick in years. Rich was pretty good. Roger actually did better than he expected.
Sean got bored, so we worked on Rich's door.
Then Sean tried to fix Rob's wipers, but wasn't equipped well enough to find exactly where the fault was.
Had BBQ ribs & corn on the cob for dinner. Bill was captivated by the corn (it was delicious).
Roger had "goodies" to give out. Air filters, oil filters (I got one of those) and an alternator cooling hose.
Kyle was running a K&N, so he got one of the air filters. They were accompanied by instructions on which way they should go. Alan was pretty sure his present one is in backwards.
I had to cut out after that, so I must have missed Otis' stick. I had about a 3 hour drive, and got home after midnight (had left the house at about 5:15 AM).

It was great meeting everyone. Roger is a great guy. Jeff & his entire family were incredibly welcoming. I guess I thought Sean would be bigger.

Notables:
Roger telling Otis that he should mass produce his intake guards.
Rich saying to Sean (after beating him at pool) "I should have bet you... Not money, but that you would fix my door lock."
Sean saying "I promised myself that I wouldn't do any work for free up here"...

Victor offering to use my 85 Euro as the prototype/test bed for a supercharger install. We were talking about it, and he said he didn't make one for an 85, no room around the intake. I said "I've got lots of room around the intake. Mine's a Euro. It has a spider". Victor looked, saw the side marker, his eyes lit up, we went over and lifted my hood. Victor then proceeded to show/tell me exactly how he would install a blower. Sooooo tempting.
Trying to get the convertible top up on Victor's Spyder. The car was under a roof, but the rain was coming down very hard and the car was getting wet. We couldn't figure out how to put the top up (the release for the hard cover is inside the trunk). Otis accidentally removed one of the hooks for the back of the top. As Victor pulled up, Otis handed the hook to Bill and said "Here, hold this for me."

It was a great time. I'm glad I came, even if it was only for the day on Saturday. I hope I can make next years. Thanks again, Jeff. You put on a wonderful event.

Bigger how, exactly?

It must be hard to be a professional in a field that your friends have as a hobby. Knowing that although you could give away your expertise to your friends for free, doing so removes money from your pocket. There's a fine line that must be drawn for the bills to get paid, and it must be hell to draw that line. Sean was an enthusiast just like all of us initially, morphed into the area's known 928 mechanic, but he still is willing to help out when and where needed.

I just wanted to say thanks, Sean.

I've been to events where Sean has been stuck under a car during a major part of the event. He has and is always helpful and willing lends a hand or his expertise wherever he is. There are very few people in the 928 community who are bigger than Sean!

Had a great time and as always Jeff and family are fantastic hosts who make sure everyone has anything they could want. So again, thanks to you all. It was great to put more faces with names and rennlist handles, seeing some great 928's and enthusiastic owners. As we've all said before, the cars are great but the people are what make it a real good time.

I do have to say I don't think I have ever felt the humidity like on Saturday. That was just unbelievable and had to have been comparable to the Amazon jungles. It didn't take away from the fun though as my shoulder can attest to (bruised) from the trap shooting. All the shooting was fun and the location/range is top notch. When I came back from the last time I was up there I looked around for a place like that local and there isn't. Great place.

When we got back from the gather on Saturday evening all I could do was lay in bed and I think my eyes were closed by 10:30. So when I looked at my phone Sunday morning I noticed you all went out to the local pub. We wouldn't have made it home if we had.

Roger and I made it home in right around 12 hours so our speed was pretty good, thanks to Victor for smoothing out my ST Maps, the car has gained 3mpg just from that. Now I know where I can do more tuning to make this thing even faster.

We are almost home from another great trip to Dubuque. We had a great time Jeff and it was great seeing everyone. The rain dampered things a bit on driving the great roads around Dubuque but what do you do. One suggestion I would have is what about a dinner cruise? We could find a good restaurant that would reserve parking and tables for us and then have cocktails back at the lodge after.

That's a good idea!! There are some great twisties around Dubuque, and a spirited 1/2 hour drive to a buffet someplace, like we did for breakfast, would be a great idea. That way we'd have a bug train of 9's. Last years drive was awesome.

Also people need to know this get together is much more than just shooting guns. I heard that some people didn't attend because they thought it was all about shooting. Yes it's held at a gun club, yes there was shooting, but it was much much more than that!!! It's an incredible location and Beautiful lodge!! There were many people there that didn't shoot. They played poll, worked on cars, and just sat around and talked. I use to shoot a lot of trap in my 20's, but I was so busy with other things and talking to everyone that I only got up to the range for about 5 min. btw... Thanks Roger for letting me use your 12 gauge for a few minutes.

Lets pack that place next year!!

Well I think Otis' eyes must have lit up when I told him there was a gun range there. He was like..."really". He was on the fence about coming down but the gun range sealed the deal. Personally I don't care whether theres a gun range or not. I hear enough shooting in Chicago and their not shooting at targets persay. There just dumb****s shooting.The lodge itself is a great place to admire some serious quality woodwork and that alone is worth the visit. Yes its Air Conditioned. You can lounge around, watch TV, shoot pool or drink at the bar or work on your car. There's plenty to do and out of all the events I've attended everyone is always working on their cars and there's always someone eager to give a hand to a fellow shark owner. The spirited drive out to dinner would be great but if it rains that would suck. No Spirited Driving then. I kinda like the fact that if it did rain we could all just hang out togther. I'm not sure I'd change anything. The spirited drive and photoshoot put it among the best events last year. It was still enjoyable this year and the breakfast run was good too. Thanks again Jeff. I'm sure a poll for next year will help.

I also think some kind of intinerary would be helpful.

Like so

9am to 11am meet and greet
11am to 1230 spirited run and photoshoot
1-130 lunch served
3-6 tech/help sessions - gun shooting
7pm dinner

Something along those lines so people know when to show up and what to expect. Of course if its rains should have a plan B. Maybe Rob can show us how to polish our sticks.
