Dang - the straps were a good idea - why did they delete that...?

I was about to answer that they eliminated the straps when they switched the design of the tool panel (vinyl to carpet etc) but then I looked at my 80 panel and it has the straps.

Just my guess but a lot of the early changes seem to be cost related. I have noticed some of the minor changes seem to be simplification.

Guy, I'll get some pics together for ya.

In the meantime, notice the cargo cover and net... '78-79 only, I believe.

Also note the 3 rubber pads under the spare tire.

And the plastic piece that covers the connectors in spare tire well, right next to where the jack and lug wrench go

PS. Anecdotal but, I haven't seen marker triangles on early 928... only later.

Here's an early air compressor (from late MY78)

Not sure when they switch to the crap-tastic plastic one... and my old '80 had that.

My 79 came with (Porsche - disposable) gloves in the spare tire along with the jack which is wrapped in a carpet kinda piece. I think there's also a small air pump too. Not the kind that came with S4's though. Just a generic small air pump in a cardboard box IIRC. I also have the bulb kit - it fits between two foam pieces in the inside rear bumper behind the tool kit in a plastic case.

Love the information, thanks so much!

I have the bulb kit wedged between the soft foam blocks and the the three rubber pads but I never knew where the rubber pads were affixed, that is great info!

The original rear seats in my car have the little ***** towards the center for affixing the cargo net (one is missing) I also noticed that the rear seat release ***** are slightly different in 78/79 which is an odd change. That green car used as an exemplar is crazy clean, nice car!

Thanks for the pics, now I know what I must hunt down. Love this site and its members!

There was also a large plastic bag for the used flat dirty wheel and tire so you did not soil the interior....because it will never fit down in the spare tire well !! And you probably did not want to leave it beside the road

Interesting. I looked through mine and guess I'm missing the bulb kit, gloves (unless the gloves are in my sealed bag for the tire), and a short attachment for the screwdriver (should be in the head of the screwdriver; probably a smaller phillips??). If anyone has extras of these they want to sell let me know. I have the belt with tag, plugs etc. There is also an O ring with two steel hanger thingies on it in the spare tire (pictured below). Anyone know what that's for?

The carpet piece always pushes down a bit when the tire goes in. You'll also see that my rubber pieces have come loose. Anyone know the best way to glue them back down?

Guy, here's how everything is in my 79.

Good stuff, Doug!

That rubber band goes on your tool kit, for the spanners.

Silicone adhesive should work fine to glue down those pads.

Thanks for posting.

That O ring with the 2 metal things looks like the strap that keeps all the tools in place like the other 2 you have installed on the tool tray.

Oh yeah, can't believe I didn't notice that. Cool that they gave us a spare one of those, and amazing that the originals haven't broke in 35 years!!!!

Thanks Doug, I enjoy seeing these details.

Looks like I am missing the following:
Gloves
Tire bag
couple of the bulbs in the kit
and most importantly.....the compressor.

I was missing a spare but I picked one up, Unfortunately its the later aluminum spare from the S4. Not going to worry about it for now.

I love the hunt, so this gathering of parts is my fun part. I managed to score a lead on a radio, so not too much left
