I thought all 87 models an up had LSD until PSD was introduced (not sure of what year that was)?
All GTs had LSD or PSD, but on the S4 it was an option.
Ordering a 928 w/o a limited slip is crazy IMO, but lots were sold that way. My Dad's 968 has an open diff and even that little 4-banger can light up the inside tire when you get on it, no fun.

that "little 4-banger" makes 240 HP ! way more than my 1980 928 Was at the time the most powerful normally aspirated production 4 cylinder made. And at 3 liters one of the larger...
Why did the VIN lookup come back showing that the car was built as an automatic? Was it converted? Could the VIN lookup be wrong? Am I reading it wrong?
I've not seen the VIN lookup be wrong yet. Given the VIN is for a non-sunroof car, I'd say its the right one for the car.
Which means its either a 5-speed conversion, or its still an auto. The shifter does look like it could be an aftermarket auto shifter.. see this aftermarket auto shifter from another thread:

True, but torque is what spins the wheels. Your 928 may be down 20hp to a 968, but it's up 40 lb.ft. of torque.
Hard to see on a tablet if the kickdown cable is there or not in the engine bay picture. That will tell if it's an auto or not. The shifter isn't in the "park" position like most autos do when interior pictures are taken.
you live in the wrong part of Indiana!, You are too close to Chi-Com.
Yep. About 10 more miles south and I'd be in the next county with no testing. We even have to be on Chicago's time zone...nothing like coming home in the dark at 4:30 during the winter.
On the plus side, there's always a good selection of 928s in Chicago and I'm really liking this one. Too bad registering it and getting it to pass emissions would probably turn into a nightmare.
