For Sale: 1993 928GTS 5speed
Hello everyone,
I am selling my GTS. In a few years I will be relocating to the Philippines to assist my folks in their senior years.
As it stands I rarely get to drive it. To continue to let it sit in the garage is not a wise choice. Since I took ownership in 2011 I have put about 2+K miles. Current mileage is at 95,900. It did give me my 928GTS fix.
Yes, I do plan on another GTS when I return. Hopefully my next GTS will have rub strips.
Asking price $36,000 obo.
1993 928GTS, manual, Polar Silver, Two tone gray interior. Rub strip delete option. I will let the experts chime in on the exact color hue of the interior and anything else I have missed. probably...several
VIN:
WPOAA292XPS820148
Option Code:
C02 331 570 650 692
Mileage: 95,900miles.
General Description:
It is a Daily Driver 928GTS, not a trailer queen. When I presented it to the 928 crowd in SiTP2011 the general census was the car has not been tampered with. Several said its as original as it gets. Some even told me whomever has been servicing the 928 has kept it OEM down to hoses and clamps.
Cosmetically it could use a serious detail. There is a door ding in the rear fender, rock chips marks on the front nose, hood and windshield. Wheels have been polished sometime in its life. The P.O. that I purchased it from ran over red paint that spilled on the freeway. The result; little specs of red paint in the fender well, under carriage and lower valance. I thought of addressing the red spots, but i figured it kinda time/date seals the car. To me this equates to no body work or repaint from that date forward. Tire Pressure Monitor keeps flashing on the dash...welcome to the club....so I have been told. Sunroof does not seal flush with roof line ( see pic ). I told its as easy adjustment. just open the sunroof halfway. Access the fasteners to adjust the height of the panel. be careful not to scratch the paint. Roof antenna rubber is beginning to crumble. Drivers seat side bolster repaired by P.O. ( see pics [note adjusted camera picc to amplify problem ]), rear tires are down to wear bar. These are things that come to mind immediately.
Driving experience has been pleasurable during my ownership. Nothing unusual has been noted, except for the pesky tire monitoring warning message. All I have done was an oil change with Royal Purple 20w/50 as recommended by Roger, at 928RUS, and ...recently a new battery has been installed, and attached to a battery tender.
I was pleasantly surprised that it passed smog. It had been sitting in the garage for many months. Started it up ( valve noise for a few seconds ) and drove it 5 miles straight to Test Only Smog Shop, and it passed. I was thinking it would fail considering it is rarely driven and the cats are probably not hot enough.
It is currently in need of a coolant flush, PSD flush, new rear tires and depending whose point of view their could be a small list of deferred maintenance that has been overlooked.
Timing Belt was replaced in Feb. 2001 @ 71,600miles.
Records point out several inspections for t-belt tension has been performed years after Feb 2001.
Clutch replaced in Nov 2001 @ 75,000miles
NOTE: I just pointed out what I believe to be the most crucial maintenance items. The incomplete service records from the P.O. date back to 1997. Records indicate several tune-ups, oil changes, PSD drain/flush, brake fluid drain and bleed, transmission & differential fluids drained and filled and coolant flushes have been performed. Tires, ball joints, brake pads, A/C service, etc have been performed.
I have given a general overview of the GTS. I know I have missed some details. Feel free to point it out to me.
This is my first posting of selling GTS. If there are no interested parties. I will take the normal route of CL, eBay, etc.
I would rather it go to a fellow member of RL.
Feel free to contact me via RL or

Thank you
Steve

Nice car Steve .. and cheap for what it is IMO ... GLWS.
Sunroof is exactly what mine was like, intermittently, when I got it. Probably just a clean, to get rid of the old contaminated lubricants on the tracks, and minor adjustment will fix it.

no rub strips......well
the car is a duplicate of my GTS w/o the strips although this car is the 2nd gen '93 GTS with the different cam cover breathers, conn rods etc etc......nice nice nice.
I too would want the tbelt/water pump/gears done......the sunroof is probably needing exercise.
Perhaps priced on the low side......GLWS

Deferred maint. is a negative for me, and you have several. The crowd here is probly not deterred by these, and the uninitiated may not know or ask these things. YMMV.
Any records on the coolant changes?
Anything that makes the deal easier can help, so I'm wondering where you are, and whether you will help with shipping and how much that might be.
Where did it live before you? Certainly a serious buyer can do the research, but it just helps to know these things. Anything to sweeten the deal like manuals?
What's your time frame?

Steve and I have spent hours discussing rub strips, and how to add them to this car - or better not.

Pre S4/GT and GTS = No rub strips. S4's = Rubstrips. The curvy-er bodies look best without, the more linear sides of the S4/GT look good with.
