Default Help at Devek Days (or - wanna ride?:))

Hello,

I've had this car for several weeks now (was away for part of this time though ) and now I am getting paranoid. I've had it checked out by Devek before I bought it and they basically found nothing wrong with it except for the right tie rod, which was replaced by the previous owner (thank you!).

So, now I am driving it around listening to it and getting scared - maybe something's wrong and I just don't hear/feel it. So, local experts are humbly invited to take a ride in a modest-looking S4 come these Devek days. I need your opinion!!!

p.s. is it just me or the windshield wipers on the 928s are not very good?

The windshield wipers pretty much suck! The one on my drivers side has the wind scoop thing and it helps a lot. But the passenger side one doesn't have that scop and it's all wobbly (especially at high speeds).

The rear one does seem to be quite good though - no complaints there.

I'll take some seat time in your car. I can't say I'm an expert. I've driven 6 928's and owned 2 of them. I've also had rides in another 4 or 5. I'll give you an honest opinion though.

How about describing what you're hearing? Maybe we can troubleshoot it for you here on the list.

Okay, they may look silly to some, but has anyone tried those dual wiper jobs on a 928? I think they all come with the scoops.

I have no complaints about the wipers - they work better than on most of my previous cars. I have the aerodynamic thingie on both wipers, evern though the Porsche brochures only show it for the drivers side, as on Beth's car.

Did you know that the wipers were changed for the S4? Yep, they sit almost an inch lower on the windshield...

Seth,

I think we know each other (I am not certain, but...) So, let's do it.. mine will be a '90 dark blue S4 - used to belong to Duane O.

Nicole,

I am pretty sure that my car doesn't have any thingies on the whipers! I feel cheated!! And how about that ride? I mean - if anybody is an expert....

It sounds like you are *not* hearing anything and that concerns you?

yes there was a weird clanking noise when coming to a stop but it went away...

I know, this doesn't sound logical but all you guys scared me into the "preventive maintenance" mode and now I slipping into paranoia

plus, it's always nice to talk to people, who know more than I do (and in my case it's pretty much everybody...)

Gee, and when I saw the title to this topic I thought it was going to be for folks who want to help out at our event next weekend!

You are probably one of the best-educated 928 buyers I've ever known, and I'm sure there will be lots of other folks who can give you their 928 cents worth next Saturday.

See you soon!

Maybe new blades would help your wipers? It made a world of difference on my pre-S4 928s.

I installed Bosch micro edge wipers on both of mine and love them. They do an excelent job in the wet climate of the PacNW. Tend to squeal a little when sprinkling though.

It's nice to know I'm not alone. I thought I was the only paranoid 928 owner in this area... I like to think that I'm a recovering paranoid owner though. Mine was in poor condition when I got it but in the year and a half I've owned it, (aside from a flakey factory alarm and a dead battery), it's been a reliable car. The longer I have it and drive it, the more confident I get that it won't leave me stranded somewhere. Enjoy it!

Shane, where'd you get those micro-blade wipers? How much?

Thanks.
