Hi Rob,
found another 928 RoW (german specs) but A/T and it's 1981. I'm guessing is by this VIN (interisting that in 1982 got the full VIN and up to 1981 got the older VIN type number) what engine would be? M28/09 or M28/10 ? Also, there's any way you can tell by the tag plate or elsething, what upholstery did it bring ? Somone, (again) did a new, low quality upholstery in very bad leather quality and job.

Thanks

1. A car with the VIN 9289100336 would be a 'rest-of-world' (ROW) market car from 1979, not 1981.
2. The 17 digit VIN arrived worldwide in 1981, not 1982.
3. If the car with VIN 9289100336 has an M28/09 or an M28/10 engine, it has had an engine replacement, as both the M28.09 and M28.10 were used in ROW 928s in 1980, 1981 and 1982.
4. If the car originally came with a 5-speed manual transmission, it would have had an M28.09 engine. If an automatic, then the M28.10.
So does the car you're asking about have the 9289100336 VIN?

Apologies if the following response is not entirely clear, as I'm a little confused:

That's a 1979 European market automatic, from here the engine is certainly a K-jetronic (CIS) motor but that doesn't really help differentiate a '79 M28.02 that would be the original motor in a 1979 automatic, vs. an M28.10 which would also be a K-jetronic engine with similar appearance. The only way to be sure on the engine is to check the serial number on the stamp pad about 3 inches below the upper radiator hose as it enters the coolant crossover.
RE: the R45219 number on the title, there's no 928-related serial number that would start with an R followed by 5 numbers, I don't know what that means. And the title's wrong, this is definitely a 1979 car, between the VIN tag, and the visible vacuum hoses going into the doors for the vacuum operated locks.
