Holy smoke that there is serious money at the time!!!

I wonder if any of those were early trials of the guards, or were no additional charge to keep S4's selling before the GTS transition.

I'm sure Errka will have some info ....

Since GTS rearmost piece mounted to rear fender needs to be shorter than normal M418's about 20cm long part factory probably didn't see financial sense to make it before GTS fenders become standard. Afterall there were so few XX8 cars made. Though there should be more early '91 MY and also '90 MY cars with that option than 78 ROW and one US car made in '91 MY. PET just do not have that info. I think total number is something like 120 made during '90-91 MY's. Large percentage went to Japan.

'92 MY codes must be just a mistake in PET data since AFAIK all 928 made since start of the '92 MY got them. This isn't only instance where option becomes standard it's still listed for a while after the change and then it disappears from later cars even though they have it.

It's almost full one year too early. It's very early '79 MY US model.

Lots have been learned about 928's in past few years. Most important source has been PET option data. Which is sole reason this thread is around.

Interesting, it lists a G28.05 5-speed transmission, but an automatic trans in the option list. Which is it?

Interesting.. 50 928's with that conundrum, only 2 of which were USA delivered (both USA ones are '82).

Possible alternative meaning of option 249? Or just an error on the production line paperwork where Hans ticked the wrong box on the job sheet?

And this is why the manual annotation of these requests is useful, it improves the dataset.

Transmission is automatic, wheels have been changed and stickers are in English.

^^ Does it have the original radio? If so what is it? Just trying to get to the bottom of I126 ... which shows as digital radio for 911 of that year. Any other options that are on the car, or on your sticker, that Rob hasn't listed .. and is I126 on your sticker?

Edit: What is the engine number? If the manual gearbox notation was always wrong and the auto wasn't a last minute change, then the motor should be an M28.16.

And a few more if you add the M251 option with a manual engine (odd engine type).
We would need to have the engine\gearbox numbers to check which are correct, the codes or the engine\gearbox types.

For I126, I really think it means Digital (display) radio for 1980-1982 and stickers in French for 1992-1995.

There's a lot of cases where the same code was used for different meanings - A year or so ago I was trying to build a single comprehensive list including the codes for each model, but it proved exceedingly tricky working out which years which codes apply to. I still have the excel file somewhere.
