Hi Joe! The engine was never dissambled. We had a pressure test done, and all cylindres had good pressure, so we didnt open it. The only thing left to do is reinstall the hard lines, engine, and new fuel lines. I have the manuals but dont know where to start?

Plenty of information here, Dwayne's tutorials, and the workshop manuals to guide you. Then it's a matter of rehanging the fenders/front end, alignment and you're burning rubber! I know it seems daunting, but you've come so far and I know you can see it through with your family assisting. Best of luck...get 'er done!

Get an Enthusiast to Take Over your car and transfer ownership of the vehicle

What would you pay for someone to put this back together?
a. Should you just go buy a car which runs at that price?
b. Should you offer someone with a good quality car market price with a small discount for trading your current vehicle and pretty parts?

Tell the kids to fish or cut bait

You have kids, as I do, and let me tell you they NEED to learn about mechanicals/turning wrenches.
Make it a work for reward program, each hour they spend on the car is worth X (where X might be working towards their own car Or simply funny money for clothes or something).
Hopefully they learn life skills and determine if working on things mechanically IS or IS NOT for them.

Sell the parts now and know you just didn't have the ability to finish the job

I know this is harsh but if you cannot finish, another couple of years isn't going to help you finish.

You've clearly got a fair amount of money in this vehicle. I personally think you dove into the deep end with no water in the pool (or no ability to swim).

I do VERY GENUINELY feel for your situation but it is absolutely time to man-up and make a decision. Know if you get it further along, people on this board will CHEER you on and point you in the direction of the resources you might need.

GOOD LUCK!!!!
1. As I stated when we began the project we had the help of a 928 mechanic who can no longer assist us, hence the position we are in.

2. This will work if there was a way I could recoup my investment. But I doubt that anyone would offer me what I have invested at this point with the car not running. I cannot afford to just write this off.

3a. If I were to go buy a car for what it would cost me to pay someone to put this together we would be stuck with a car that's in need of pretty much everything we are replacing on this one. All of them are 30 years old!
3B. Same as above. I'd be stuck with a comparable vehicle that I'd have to replace parts on.

4. Concerning the kids, they have either lost interest or busy with their own lives. They are 22 and 23.

5. I've contemplated selling the brand new parts that I've purchased from Carl and Roger but honestly I would take a loss on them because they are considered used at this point plus I'd have to deal with all the packaging and shipping. I'm not really interested in dealing with that.

6. Diving in the deep end? I've jumped in with cement boots and I did it because after surfing this forum I thought there would be a group of 928 guys here in Michigan that would be happy to assist me simply for the love of the car. Boy was I mistaken.

7. Manning up? You're absolutely right. I think at this point I'm going to attempt to try to put this back together with no mechanical skill and the help of this forum. I will definitely need your assistance.

Thank you,
Mark

I'll bet this forum shows you some love and the Sharks in Hell suggestion is probably a great one!

Glad to hear you are going to go for it

Stick with it. You have come so far, don't stop now. As pointed out, most of the stuff left is just putting things back in/on. Shop manuals have a great deal of good information, and I am sure questions posted here will be answered.

Cheers!
Carl

I sent a PM to AO I hope he will be able to offer some ideas to put this project into a moving forward program.

At any rate, its time to schedule a 928 GTG meet and greet at your house Mark.
I would do this before the Sharks in hell

You're absolutely right! Calling out to the Michigan and surrounding areas 928 enthusiasts. I would like to formally introduce myself, my name is Mark and I am a 928 fanatic. I am inviting you to a 928 GTG meet and greet at my house on Saturday, July 30, 1pm-dark. Food and drinks provided. Please PM me for my address and phone number. If you can't make it, I would love to meet you at Sharks in Hell.

See you then,
Mark

You might get more participation by starting a new thread with "Michigan Meet & Greet July 30" or similar in title. Folks who are in the area might pass right over the 85 Euro title without reading the thread posts.

Good luck and wish I could come up, hopefully meet at Sharks in Hell!
