Opinions on my cam gears, re-coat - UPDATE
The light is reflecting a little in these pictures. The coating looks worn, but not all the way through for the most part. On the tops of some of the teeth there are little marks in the coating.
Opinions greatly appreciated.

Those look good, I'd just re-use them and think about coating them next go around.

I'd use them through another belt cycle. Then buy a set of roger's.

Those gears look good- what about getting them coated now, so that by the next belt change you're back to where they are now, instead of being into the metal, cupping the teeth and possibly forcing replacement?

I bet with proper tension these gears will look close to the same when the next belt cycle is due.

Sean's seen a lot more of them than I have, I would defer to his judgement over mine.

Those appear to be the -01 rev so I have to ask how many miles on them?

The again in 1999 at 153k. $2037.67
So they might have been replaced in 1992 at 65k, car now as 180k, so 115k (70k miles).

928 105 530 01 is the original cam gear with the softer alloy and wear coating.
The new iteration is 928 105 530 04 harder alloy and hard anodized surface finish.

You are at an common point, in the "cam gear" sequence.
Leaving them alone and putting on a new belt makes sense.
Recoating them, makes sense.
Re-using them or recoating them after another timing belt sequence is not going to happen.
Once you start to see little "flecks" of aluminum through the coating (like on your right hand gear picture) the coating wears the rest of the way off, pretty quickly. Once that happens and the aluminum touches the rubber surface of the belt, things go downhill pretty quickly. The wear on one gear transfers to the belt surface and chews up the other gears, fairly quickly (10,000 miles.)
These gears will be beyond repair, by the next belt change (which will need to be done early, because the gears will wear on the belt) and you will need to find replacements.
I'd make sure to do the regular timing belt inspections and plan on being back in there by 30,000 miles.....which could be many years, the way these cars are driven, these days.

Hi Everyone.
I read good things about Finishline Coatings. However, I am in Canada and am looking for a good Canadian provider of dry-film lubricant (also the Canadian dollar is worth only about 72cents US!). I need the 2 cam gears and the oil pump gear re-coated. I saw Fireball Coatings in Ontario...??.
Any ideas? Thanks.
