when i was a VW tech, we had 2 W8's come in with broken cranks, and a couple neighboring dealers saw it too. it was also mentioned a few times on the weekly live satellite training. also several magazines at the time commented on Phaeton W12s in europe breaking cranks.

AS you can see 242mph and 275mph can be achieved by Chevy engines in cars readily driven on the street. It has been said that John Hennessy has a 4 door Caddy that lays down 2000hp, has done over 270mph, and it is his daily driver.....

Anyhow, back to Veyron and your comments, I think we are in violent agreement. One can find such cars at the intersection of too many $$ and too much ego. Would I own one if I could afford it? Most likely not, as it strikes too many elements of discord with me. I would prefer a few classic cars over the Veyron.....

By the way, there has been a couple of them show up at the local cars and coffee, they attract some lookers, but not a significant crowd....
We seem always to agree Jim.

It so happens this is a fresh off the presses article about the car in Road and Track. My Father-in-Law left the magazine while visiting.

The Veyron is more a reincarnation of the Auto Union V16 and later V12 that dominated racing in the 1930s imo.

It has been said it could get wheel spin on acceleration at over 100 mph.

It's no Bugatti and that always bugged me about it.

The Bentley engines don't seem to have the issues that the VW versions do.
