I am very curious to know what a junkyard offers for it. Last time I was at pick a part I think they had a sign with some kind of clunkers deal that applied to anything registered for the last two years, like $500 or something.

Where is it now, maybe see if you can stir up a free location for it while you decide?

Any insurance issues with keep or sell, sounds like no coverage for the crash?

Seriously guys, I would never have given up on her unless it is hopeless. The speed of the collision was at about 50 mph against a 10" high curb. I sent her around a few shops already and the results were grim each time. The pictures don't show the damage underneath. We're talking about tie rods and steering rack mangled up and frame with sheers. Heck, even the Hitec Auto guys says she's flatlined. sniff...

DANGLERB: Parts Heaven wanted to give me $300.00 for her carcass. So I said f-it, I just signed over the carcass to Devon over at Hitec. That way when I finally get my hands on another 928S I know I have a good parts car right there...
AVR928: Now that it's more or less settled, I'll ship the shifter to you after the holidays...

$300?! Are you kidding me? That's insulting. You can make that from several of your interior pieces alone. Crazy.

Thanks. I'll PM you.

If the damage is extensive, Is it possible to cut the front portion of the frame off and get a replacement from an old car (weld on). A lot of work to prep it, but a good body shop should be able to put it back together,,,,,what do you think???............... I had an old car that went to the salvage yard and I cut off the frame just ahead of the firewall incase my race car had a crash.

It is POSSIBLE to rebuild nearly anything.....it is however often highly impractical unless the car is very rare and valuable.

1st thing 1st, Merry x-mas y'all!!!
The few shops I asked said minimum $8 to $10k. I'm not so sure about splicing high torque cars like ours...
As I continue on to drown my sorrows in my hunt for another OB shark. Here are a few that I'm actively trolling:
84 manual
85 manual
86 auto
87 manual
This is blown87's?? I'm very partial to OB's but if it's Nettles' 87, it would be worth considering. But I'm not sure that I would be "blown87 worthy."

All very nice cars and they look amazing. I'd personally go for the '87 manual if your in that price range since it's the best out of the lot. I'd go for the '86 over the S4-converted '85 personally so as long as ALL the maintenance is done on that car.

Budget allowing, I would be talking to the owner of the 87 5 spd, but it does seem to be top dollar for model and miles, even if condition is excellent. OTOH nice cars are rare.

Some interesting updates about my search for a replacement... And the search traced back to something DANGLERB posted at Pelican...
I'm looking at this car, which then lead me to this thread on Pelican.
I've attached a snapshot of the import tag. Turns out there's a typo in the VIN on the tag. I cross referenced the last digits against 928registry.org and found out the the VIN is WP0ZZZ92ZFS841243. She is registered til May 2014.
I'm scheduling a PPI next week. Let's see where this goes...

This thread, link didn't work for me. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsc...o-usa-85s.html

BAR sticker looks plenty funny to me, make sure to check the chassis vin on the passenger fender etc.

Did you buy it? CL linked ad is gone.

if you intend to register it in California best to be sure the seller gets a smog certificate and you should be there when they do it just to be sure it is real or in two years when YOU have to smog it things could be really ugly....

Something must be funny with the tagged URL in my last post...
Here's the link to the craigslist ad:

Here's the link to the Pelican thread:

Looking the plate number and VIN number up against autorepair.ca.gov shows corresponding and matching history. It's looking good so far. Scheduling a PPI in the coming week over with the hitec auto guys in San Rafael.

Nice looking 928.
Good luck with the PPI, hope it gets a good review so you can be back into a shark.
You will want to verify block number of the twin dizzy engine.

A review of the TT install would be something I'd want the owner to agree to if possible --- removing the front pinch bolt and reviewing the flexplate / crankshaft endplay measurement would be particularly good to add to PPI in my opinion. But its a bit intrusive.

Seems like a fair price if the car checks out.
