hatch help needed
RE: hatch alignment. Just got an email back from the guy that did my paint and body work.
"we removed the rear part of the liner, there are covers if I recall correctly , there is plenty of adjustment on this side of the hinge."
I presume he means that there is adjustment on the hatch side of the hinge connection once youl loosen those bolts. Have a helper - hatch is heavier than it looks.

Check the area hiding behind the tools caddy, where the hatch receiver mechanism and wiper mechanism resides. It should be a completely flat and smooth shelf. If it has any kind of distortion to it, then the car was hit in the rear and that rear body section which holds the hatch receiver has been bent (it is also what the rear bumper cover mounts to).
I recently discovered this in my white car, and am having a body shop straighten it back out with a frame machine. I always wondered why my hatch did not quite line up right (my hatch alignment problem was at the rear). Maybe take a close look at how your rear hatch lines up along the rear bumper. Look at it horizontally straight on, as well as from directly above. See if there is any misalignment there.
It is also fairly easy to check if your rear hatch is straight. Diagonally opposite corners can be accessed with a ruler. See if you get the same measurement for both diagonals.
Agree, good save - cool car to work with!
