Default Experiences with anodizing rims?

What are the experiences here with re-anodizing old Porsche rims? I think it'd be awesome to get mine done in a gold for my S4, blacked out S4 with Weissach gold rims would look sweet. I ask because the place I take parts to all the time for plating also does a bunch of other treatments.

Matt I would really like to know as well.
I have two Weissach's that would look great with newly finished gold anodized rims.
I have considered powder coating and painting but would prefer anodizing if it can be still done legally.

Legally? What takes the legality out of anodizing? Does the structural integrity of aluminum degrade with the processes used? Of course these rims don't use just straight aluminum, I'm sure it's some special alloy.

That's the place I take all my stuff to for plating. They have the standard anodizing colors of clear, black, blue, red, gray, but can do custom colors at additional cost.

The rumor was that the chemicals need to do the platinum/goldish finish were made illegal to use in the US many years ago due to very bad environmental problems.

Dunno about the platinum but I had my CS rims silver anodized here in the PRK, so some colors can still be done:

Correct the silver is available, not a problem however the finish is often not as thick as original.

Gold anodizing is the problem as stated by Jim.
I tried a number of places around the States with no success - happy to be proved wrong of course.

Ahh. Sort of like the cadmium problem. Well i'll inquire and see if it can be done. Maybe it's only isolated to the US, probably started by California...

Roger .. Bruce Buchanan here in Oz has rims re-anodised (he had the rims on his own 928 done) ... check with him .. he should know what can and can't be done.

Here's a pic of one of his ... in silver.

Environmental restrictions are about the same here as the US, and sometimes, such as the use of Halon, more restrictive.

The anodized rims can be refurbed by the manufacturer (Fuchs) to the original specs.
They might have a subsidiary or a partner in the USA. Otherwise sending them to Fuchs in Germany is an (expensive) option.

Some claim re-powdercoating wheels can weaken the metal from the heat.

Years ago I remember mountain bike manufacturers claiming the anodized frames were actually stronger than painted ones. I never thought to research this, quick search brought this up:

Powder coating only requires about 400*f, doubt that will cause any problem....

Alright, well, I have to pick up a batch of parts this week so i'll ask them how much they want. Do you live downtown?? I've seen a 928 cruising around downtown a lot of time I'm around there. That's sweet!! Another local 928er.

We have a very large plating company next to Boeing called Production Plating Inc. Mukilteo Wa. 98275. They are across street from my factory and would be happy to help out with logistics.
