Forgot to say the germans lost the battle of Stalingrad because the did not have the right oil to be able to start the tanks when it was extremely cold 40F below.

Somebody said starting an ice cold engine is as bad for the engine as driving 500km on the autobahn. Never rev the engine until it is properly warmed up. When the temperature is below freezing the oil cold rating should be 10W or less. Recently it was 41F below in northern Sweden, at the same time it was 107F in Alice Springs, Australia. They do not use the same kind of motor oil at those two locations.

All too true Åke.

I heard long ago that 2400rpm is the upper limit until oil is at operating temperature. That keeps the piston speed down so as not to 'tear' the oil film while it is cold.

107F in Alice Springs! Must have been a cool day.

It's regularly over 100F here eastern Australia from October to March, and over 110F for short periods in Decembe.. .

Talked to Greg (Slate Blue) today and he had 40C (104F) in the garage when working making new headers. The only thing making him going at that temperature is a lot of cold beers. You guys down under have it nice and warm when we up here are freezing from the cold winds coming down from the north pole. Suppose Santa will come soon. Maybe he will bring some 928 parts.

Ive had no problems with any other oil besides 15-50 mobil 1, and that was only at the race track. on the street, the oil wont go much above 220F, but racing the 928, it can get in the 260F range, and thats where the mobil 1 failed with oil pressure going so low, the pressure light came on. So, i stick with the othe brands and stay in the 15-50 to 20-50 weight range.

This is why everyone should get an x-pipe (cat-delete) from Roger, enjoy the power boost, use the good oil, and forget about the cats.

Default Mobil 1 V-Twin - 1750 ppm Zinc...

Mobil 1 V-Twin is 20w-50, and has 1750 ppm Zinc - see here:

http://www.mobiloil.com/USA-English/...duct_Guide.pdf

I run it in both my 993 and 928 S4, and my GT will too when it's back on the road.

I use Valvoline 20W-50 racing oil. It has high zinc and all of the hot rodders use it for that same reason I do.

I have deleted the cats on all my cars, well the oldest one (1985 S2) did not come with a cat. I suppose I am one of these environmental bad guys who is dumping garbage all over the place.

I did the RMB before but the exhaust note was not that sweet just louder so I put the rear muffler back in. I wonder if it will sound better if I install the xpipe and keep the rear muffler..

I really trust Shell Rotella 15W40.

I bought a turbo (480 Super) Case backhoe a few years ago and learned it's the recommended oil for all their Cummins
powered commercial equipment.

Many Caterpillar powered tri-axle and tractor-trailer owners swear by it too..
after 600,000 or more trouble free miles.
