Default Provent Part 2

With all the work pretty much done with this car, i decided to clean up the engine bay a little. Originally i had the Provent mounted on from of the engine using one of Gregs nice mounts. One issues that bothered me was the lines from the oil neck to the Vacuum pump then from the pump to the provent were touching the radiator hose and the front heater hose. so a re do was in order

here is how it looked.

First i needed to relocate the Provent so the lines could be routed away from any possible rub points. the only place i could find was the fender well. not much room if you have the brake ducting. no matter how i placed it or what kind of bracket i could make it alway was a little to close to the headlight for comfort. this was my solution.

here you can see the finished lines. large one connects to the out of the vac pump. the small line is the fresh air/oil return to the crank case (line diameter is used to control over all vacuum pressure)

here are the lines running over the skit plate. can't be seen at all, hidden by the spoiler, just like the alternator ducting

and finally the routing up to the pump

and here is how the engine bay looks. a little cleaner and less kinks/rubbing of the lines.

I really need to become a stay at home dad and come up with cool stuff all day long.

Well done buddy.

Provents do not seem available anymore.
Has anyone built one?
I thought the mount bracket and the oil catch unit might be available.

Well you certainly made it dissapear!

Given the usual long term results of the "UU" clip securing the alternator cooling hose... (!) I think I would have mounted it to the bracket on the frame component that the splash shield attaches to - not to the shield itself. It also seems this will make removal of the shield more complicated. Otherwise that general location does clean everything up a lot in the engine bay.

My fender there is already very stuffed - so mine won't be going there - if fact I'm actually in the process of cluttering the engine bay more... more on that later when its done.

Actually it comes of pretty easy, just tilt down. :-). Can't wait to see what you have planned for your cluttering!

It did disappear!

But I'd be concerned with the length the oil vapor has to travel to the Provent. The oil in the vapor could begin to collect on the sidewalls of the hose and begin to pool at the lowest part of the hose. If that happens, then the passage gets blocked and you are no longer venting CC pressure. That's bad!

Also the oil return may be a problem if the outlet from the Provent is lower than the oil level of the engine - it's probably okay, but I can't visualize it in my head, so I'm throwing it our there.

All valid points. But being the vac pump puts out enough flow, pooling will not be an issue. As for the return, the pumps vacuum is "sucking" thru that line so any vapor/oil that makes it to the provent, is sucked back to the engine.

Andrew,

Jake is running one of my crankcase ventilation systems (more will be revealed soon enough).
These are not issues with my design. The return oil from the provent is returned to the passenger side cam cover/housing.

Any oil is sucked up, so uphill is easy :-) but I have not had any real oil need to suck up from the provent

How is it sucked up? Is there some type of vacuum? I must have missed something...

But my main concern is the pooling of oil on the CC vent to the Provent.

Vacuum pulled on the crank case, pulls air/oil from the provent
