You may be SOL. Somebody once explained to me (It may have been Nicole, to whom I'd written to ask, "Native German that you are, why not hook up a source in the Fatherland?" or it might have been Dan Stern @ http://www.danielsternlighting.com/.) that the OEM supply of 8" H4's was very limited to begin with because the 928 the only or one of very few cars to use them.

IMO, H5's are not worth it even if you can find them.

In my certain knowledge, 7" H4's are a huge improvement over 7" sealed beams AND H5's, and they are readily available for about a C-note a pair. So if what you're looking for is vision at night and you can't find H4's, the way forward is clear.

I don't love the chrome ring, either. I've considered painting it body color to make it disappear.

928 International had a handful of H5's at Sharktoberfest, but I can attest that they have 2 fewer now that they are having their end of year sale

I know that H4s are much better, but they are pricey and hard to find. I wanted the Euro look as much as the brighter beam. I will mount these and use them until I find a reasonable set of H4s, then sell the H5s probably for more than I paid.

You can get a pair 7" H4's with bulbs for about $75 from busdepot.com

In no particular order:

928MS- I _think_ these are Euro H4's, pinout and the lens pattern look right, thought it doesn't explicitly say H4.

928Intl: H4's:

928sRUs - not listed on the website, though I'm sure they can get Euro 8" H4's and H5's as well.

I'm also certain that Roger can find out exactly how many new H4's and H5's are left in stock.

Van Zweeden in the Nethelands sells new ones for EUR 260 but I am sure they also have used ones. Expect to pay EUR 100

The pecking order is 7" DOT (which you have), 8" H5 (USA OE, expensive), 7" H4 (aftermarket DOT replacement, not expensive), 8" H4 (Euro OE, expensive). The 8" headlights are Hella and I think only available from Porsche, both H4 and H5. The 7" DOT lights that you have, and the 7" euro-style H4's, are aftermarket and much less expensive.

We have the 8" H4/Euro's on our S4 and GT (adjustable). If you drive where it gets dark then H4's are definitely worthwhile. They throw quite a bit more light down the road but have a sharp upper cutoff, which is a lot more friendly for oncoming traffic than DOT's.

And oddly, prices on the factory H4's have dropped-- from 395/ea to 355 MSRP (and 258 from Sonnen). On the other hand, H5's went up from 395 to 428... someone at Porsche is sending a message.

8" H4s are readily available and always have been - they are just expensive - call Roger. 8" H5s have always been around the same to slightly more expensive - sounds like now they are even more expensive. Considering that they are functionally crap next to an H4 - the choice is quite obvious.

The only thing 8" H5s have goiing for them is that at rest they visually look better than any 7" lamp with a trim ring. When they are actually turned on at night that's no longer guaranteed.

If the prices on 8" H4s are just too high - go with good* 7" H4s and trim rings - close to as good at a much lower price - and certainly well better than 8" H5's and a massive improvement over DOT sealed beams.

* Good = Bosch/Hella/Cibie etc - a well known brand in glass.

Cheap plastic stuff on ebay is.... cheap plastic crap on ebay that you will regret as a waste of time/money....

If you have 7" DOT sealed beams get something better (or don't drive at night).

Has anyone ever looked into these JW Speaker evolution 8700 LED lamps? They are definitely pricey but look pretty nice, they come in black or chrome.

Sean Ratts installed a set of LED's on a car awhile back. But they were 7" not 8".

I put 7 in H4's on my car a while back. I would suggest 55/100watt bulbs vs the 55/60. I have since switched to H5's with bright bulbs only because I like the look, however they are not as good as the 7inch H4's.
The best set up would be the 8in H4's if you want to shell out the bucks. Last time I looked they were about $350 each

Plenty of H4 & H5 both new and used.
New H4's are $350 & new H5's $428
Used H4's $255 each and used H5's $225 each
All the above are 8"

How much are a set of used trim rings? Im assuming they will bolt right up on an S4 if one decided to go down to 7"h4 lamps, is that correct?

Thx

I quoted for all 8".
Try Mark for trim rims and I am sure they are cheap
