The cutouts for the gear indicator lights and a different tach scale. I don't know what Speedhut's policy is now but they used to require a minimum order of 25 units (IIRC) to make a new gauge face pattern.

I agree, I like the cutouts. The only thing I did with mine was to cut out the cutouts, I didn't want any reflection of the clear plastic there. Probably overkill.

A question- can you dim them to a comfortable (for me = very dim) level at night?

Absolutely can !!! The dimmer works great, from very dim to full bright and you have two shades of light blue color to choose from.

You can also turn the dimmer right off and use your stock cluster lighting, if you have the front lit system, which we know to be very dim at best.

I forgot to mention that the Speedhut dials are about 1/3rd the cost of the eBay version.

Thanks for the info, Jan. I really like the "dimmability" of my Speedhut dials, and just wanted to be double sure that the full face EL's could be dim enough. BTW, I also got a used 5spd tach from another RL'er, so I'm going to try to solve the problem of the wrong tach range on this go-around. And you're right - to me this are a really good buy!

When I ordered mine I wasn't expecting to get auto tacho face but the set came with both, so i used it.

My wife likes 'the silly cut out bits' also. She says it looks much better than boring white.

Was that from speedhut or the ebay ones? Were they plug and play or did you have to do any cutting?

Thx

Absolutely plug and play, except they only in metric with a 300kph speedo, so i used a different speedo dial.
i got them from ebay, truckparts or something iirc. Came with both manual and auto tachos.

Here's an attempt at making my own I tried a while back. Drew them in CAD but didn't attempt the side ones because of the transparency issues. Cut outs would solve that.
I tried to make the tacho a bit less boring?
I wasn't confident that the photo paper would hold up over time either.

I'm assuming the speedhut gauges don't keep the lights at the needle extremes correct? (like the low fuel, overheat, oil pressure, etc.)

Yes, they do. There is a little clear window where those lights are.
