FWIW if you have worn hatch shocks they could then be used for the hood,
ONLY if they are worn
Hood shocks are 35 LB lifts the hatch lifts are 100LB.
to test hold one shock and with one hand try to compress it into the floor ,
if you cant compress it then its a hatch shock,
as they usually take 2 hands to hold the shock while pushing.
NOTE dont install hatch shocks on the hood as damage to the hood can result
The ones from our regular suppliers seem to last seven to ten years on my car. Typically, by the time one set gets tired, I need to replace both sets. Last I looked, they are competitively priced under $20 each, but that was a shock half-life ago. I got mine from Mark and Tom at 928 International, my friendly local 928 parts purveyor. Call now and they can be on your doorstep tomorrow.
Oh, don't forget to lubricate your hood and hatch hinges. new front struts seem to hold the hood proud of the fenders a little if the hinges are stiff. A few little squirts of spray Li/TFE grease fix that for me.
Even though I sell them I treat them as consumables for my own cars.
At $13 each and they last for 5 years or more they are a one of the very cost effective parts for a 928.

Mine was from a local part store and it lasted 3 years for the hood, the hatch is still good.
Is our hood aluminum is it why the shocks are weaker so they don't have too much pressure back to the hood?
