After seeing what comes out of our humidifier each time I clean it, I'm very reluctant to ever put our tap water in one of our vehicles.

Granted, a lot of water passes through that humidifier (and is boiled off), but still...

"moles" I get it.

Out of the mouths of you and Feynman: "You can't say A is made of B, or vice versa."

Ed, that just de-humidified the water in the tray. You need one that dehumidifies the air and puts the water back in the tray. Try reversing the plug...

Correctamundo.

I use Reverse Osmosis water from my home filter system. Almost as pure as distilled.

Never tap water.

Use the distilled water. After I took off the water bridge and water pump on my 82, there was a lot of calcium buildup. Especially bad was the temp sensors. I cleaned them off and they work like new again with much better temp accuracy on the gauge.
