Default My task list...

Current list of things to do (got it up on stands, doesn't look like it's coming down for a few weeks at best.)

- Exhaust leak is not apparent with the under-sheild off when looking up at exhaust and manifold. Strongly suspecting manifold gasket. Should I just tear into it and see? (can't find a smoke tester around here to rent, and don't have a compressor at this house anyway.) Audibly coming from passenger side, so at least there's some clue.

- Gas smell is still very hard to trace down. Only shows up when motor is well warmed up. Found a line in the back of the car that may be the culprit. But when running (not up to temp) I don't smell fuel from it. Two pics attached at the end. First shows the open line (pic is looking backwards into the passenger rear wheel well - the line was tucked up behind the marker light when I found it.) Second shows the rear vent canister with a good line attached. These two lines do not *appear* to be connected.

- Found a steady coolant drip when motor is on from the pressurized tank area. Hopefully it's either a line to the overflow tank or perhaps a heater line? Not sure yet, will need to diagnose further.

And then some interior things to get to if I get bored:

- All four console switches are all poor. Need to rebuild if not outright replace. Strongly considering replacing with generic switches and a nice ebony panel from a woodworker friend of mine.

- Door panel needs re-assembled with new snaps and maybe some add-on velcro and dynamat. Drivers needs it more than passengers, of course.

... I think those are the big ones. Paint is awful, probably could use an oil change, and wp/tb before too long (at 30-something k and 7 years, according to PO)

The fuel smell is probably from the "Y" connector in the front passenger side wheel well. They are usually cracked. Search and there is plenty of info.
The caps on the console switches can be popped off to clean. There is probably 25 year old grease under them. Just be careful of the small spring and bearing that can jump out.

Sorry, should have added that I replaced the Y no help. Though my repair is suspect ("T" piece didn't fit excellently - didn't order a metal Y from the vendors.)

Have you checked the seal to the fuel level sending unit? When those go bad you can get a fuel smell in the car.

It *appears* dusty and dry, so I haven't poked at it. Might have to if I don't find anything external. Still curious about that mystery open line in the back. Need to run it up to temp and see if I can get the smell from it.

That is the main vent hose which should travel horizontally rearward from the expansion chamber and connect to the T fitting on the rear of the fuel tank neck behind the rubber overflow bellows gasket. If you look carefully you can probably see the nipple it pulled off of but will likely require removal of the bellows (very easy) to access it easily and tighten appropriately.
As it stands now you have a fully non functional evaporative/expansion system (and rollover valve) as the tank is now vented at the rear untill you hook that hose back up. Make sure the rest of the system is fully up to snuff after you hook it back up. For instance if the vapor solenoid valve (front of motor) gets stuck open it can pull a continuous vacuum on the tank and "implode" it---you don't want to go there.

Hmm. That could explain the smell. Terribly tempted to hook up a generic rollover valve from summit and an over the counter fuel filter filled with carbon, venting to air from there. Piping both the broken hose and the vent chamber hose in the other picture through this setup. Wonder what the performance/reliability implications of that would be.

After far too easy of an inspection (read - should have done it this weekend when I first saw the hose.) I determined that the loose hose is the drain from the fuel filler. So theory shifts back to a poor repair of the Y. Sigh.
