belt save.porkensioner?
finally took the drivers side cover off to check the belt on my 87.looks like its time to change it being there is about 2 inches of deflection in it.very surprised it has not jumped a tooth as loose as it is.getting my parts list together and debating on going with porkensioner rather than rebuild oem.has anyone used the water pump from partsgeek?thanks.

I wouldn't buy a pump from anyone other than our vendors here or from Por$che direct. Anywhere else and you really don't know what you're getting and it's not worth the risk.
What's the ask and what make is the "Partsgeek" unit?

with a belt that loose it probably didn't do the gears any good and theres 4 to consider replacement + water pump + belt and porkensioner........you have to remove the distis and rotors so prepared to replace those and the ignition wires may as well through in a set of spark plugs.
All th acc belts have to be removed so they may need changing as well the pwr strg res and its respective hoses that leak and potentially blow oil onto the exhaust and cause fire.
Theres more but this will do for starts.
btw.......phone Roger at 928sRus for all the correct parts at fair prices

Makes Sense
Makes sense. Only place I've seen them is on Fleabay, and IIRC they have the metal impellers You can read up on the metal impeller issues on here with a search.
You really want to call Roger. It's for your own good. And that of your car.

Went back with stock belt tensioner on my GTS after end of cam broke off and crashed valves specifically to keep the stock warning system. The toothed belt warning went off on several occasions before the valve crash, but each time on inspection the belt was fine, no adjustment necessary. After one warning incident the mechanic redid the electrical connections to and checked the warning sensor itself. Neither 3 928 mechanic(s) or myself thought to take the cam gears off and inspect when we could not find any reason for the warning light. If we had, maybe the expensive valve job could have been avoided and the toothed belt warning would have saved the day.
Had stock before rebuild, when back with same stock instead of "upgrading" to Porken.

RKD, are you saying you got a warning with the porkensioner? I thought the light switch had to be disabled with the porkensioner.
I admit I am ignorant but my personal opinion is that the porkensioner is likely to give a false sense of security. If you are the type to tear the front end of your engine apart and look for problems on a regular basis maybe there's little risk. But, for those on a more realistic maintenance schedule I think keeping the warning system has merit.
