I occasionally get black foam dust falling out of my floor HVAC ducts onto the floor mats. Porsche put something in there that crumbles and disintegrates over time as seen in this picture from one of Dwayne's write-ups ... what is this stuff and what is it supposed to do? If a person scooped it all out and got rid of it, would it make any difference?

I am guessing it is sound deadening material or a catch for dust or vapor. Don't think you will notice the difference, then again it is not in there for nothing. Lot of help huh

Aside from the aroma, if you see this it means that the same material has disintegrated on your HVAC flaps. When this happens your flaps no longer close completely thus allowing air of different temps into the cabin. The fix is to adjust the stepping motor to close this gap. I think Wally had a good write up this. Worked well for me.
