Default 81`Stereo connections help

Hi.

Can anyone give me a quick reply for the colours of the wires to a stereo headunit in my 81`model?

I guess the brown is +, but after that it stops; Ground colour, powerantenna and ignition?

Should I make a separate grounding wire for the headunit? Experience?

Thanks in advance

Jørgen

No idea if this is correct or not, just saved the site for later myself. Someone will probably post the factory diagram.

Brown is ground.

Well... The links at Manuals for 928 pdfs are down. Maybe try again. You need the wiring diagrams.

Brown is always ground in these cars.
Red is constant hot - it runs off of fuse 24, the interior lights circuit.
Red/white is switched hot - it runs off the ignition and has it's own fuse.
Blue/black is lighting - same as the dash lights.

An 81 has the external antenna, right? If you have a windshield antenna you need to power that too. It's a black wire that runs along the antenna coax. I used the "amp power" off my head unit to power it.

The wiring diagrams in the WSM are helpful. For a lot more than the stereo.
