Default Radiator hose

I just notice my bottom radiator hose is very close to the belt, as a matter fact it has some rubbing so is there a way to install it some other way so its a little further apart, i have put in a new strap but still too close, thanks, Barry

I seem to recall the S4+ radiator hose is slightly different than the earlier ones. Could it be you have the wrong one for your year?

I notice in your avatar photo a 928MS radiator. This radiator is thicker than the stock Behr unit, and all of the connections are moved toward the engine by about 1/2" or so. I recently installed this radiator on my '78, and experieced the lower radiator hose getting chewed up by the PS belt. For the upper radiator hose, I trimmed 1/2" out of the hose, so that it would not hit the timing belt cover. I also had to bend the PS reservoir bracket so that it would not hit the top oil cooler line. Unfortunately, the lower radiator hose cannot be trimmed because there is an immediate 90-degree bend.

PET shows some sort of zip-tie (maybe the strap you mention), but I'm not sure how it is supposed to be installed. Also, not sure exactly how the S4 lower hose differs, and whether it would make the problem better or worse.

Original rad fan shroud has a part that is used to hold the hose with a cable tie to prevent this...

Looking at photos of fan shrouds on ebay, I see what you're talking about. My shroud does not have this part. Looks like it would help.

Mine is zip tied, not a lot of clearance.

Easy solution is to drill a hole in the fan shroud that you do have, (or the radiator shroud hook as shown below) and run a zip tie through the hole and around the hose.
In this photo, a common hose clamp was added around the hose, and the cable tie hooks through it.

All 928's have this issue, that lower radiator hose is scary-close to the power steering belt, regardless if stock or after-market radiator is used.
It has to be held away from the belt, like the factory did.

Had the same issue at Watkins Glen with Mike's, aka Courtshark, S4 with new 928MS radiator and hoses. The P/S belt rubbed a hole through the lower hose and dumped coolant all over the track shortening everyones session. He had another hose with him, cause racers always have 2 of everything, and this time we shortened the radiator side of the hose about 1.25" and that made plenty of clearance. But for safe measure and to prevent another extremely embarrasing moment, we put multiple zip ties aroung it and the fan shroud also.

So i just loosing the clamp hose, tucked/pushed as far the hose can go on both ends, twisted the hose til the scary section of the hose is away from the belt and zip tie the hose twice just to make sure like Obehave did, looks much better now! Just hope that plastic piece won"t fall off when the zip ties are!!!

If you don't have that plastic piece sticking out to zip tie the hose....even better, like Carl said, drill a hole to tie it and your hose can even be farther away from the belt!

Ya got it.

Option #7: get a 1/2" longer belt.
