I could join the chorus on fitment for '91 GT. No clearance problems and I'm running 265/35's. Plenty of clearance.

OK now put this wheel on the right side rear and lets see how it fits

you may need to pull the rear fenders out some along the edges with two hands wearing thick leather gloves,
gently pull along the edge and the fender will move outwards a few MMs use both hands
That said FJ also brings up a good point the whole rear cross member may be pushed to one side

Tried the right side just now, same problem...
So definitely no spacers...

Could it be the iessue is with the 86 model?

Original body on an S4 chassis?

Maybe the S4 is a bit wider?

Perhaps you can take a measurement of the width of the outside of the hubs, between left and right.

Also the thickness of the wheel hub. That is the NEW wheel hub compared to the original.

That's what I mean with the S4 chassis. The 86 has the complete running gear (brakes, suspension, exhaust line, chassis of the S4 but with the original body.
Only made one year.

Think that's the issue

The older style wheel hub.disc brake probably won't fit?

The Michelin tires are rather thick on the outside. I could gain maybe 1 cm when the tire would be the same widh than the rim.

What brand & type of tires do you guys use?

Maybe some pics?

That is the original wheel hub. All RoW 86's got the same brakes/suspension setup as the S4 (only the USA got the earlier brakes/hubs/abs etc. in '86).

Stefx, given they don't quite fit, you'll need to roll the wheel arch lip flat (like the GT had), or change to thinner rubber. Porken had the original 265 wide on his S4 with Cayman wheels, but then replaced them with 255 DWS on the rear

Yes, I believe i need thinner rubber. As the Michelin's are quite wide I would like to know which tires you guys use.

I think a dunlop has smaller flanks but not sure
