Front Drop Link Metal Worn
Doing steering rack replacement, and noticed that the driver side drop link is worn down on the lower inboard side. What would cause this?
What is easiest way to replace - can I just jack up the suspension and knock out the through bolt while inserting a rod to keep everything in position?
Thanks

Very weird. Cannot think of what it would rub against, even if it was installed with the wrong orientation. Post a picture if you can of the drop link installed.

So this is a right front droplink- looks like it's been 'radiused' by the inner lip of the right ffront wheel (?) Are you using one of those front swaybars that's too long?

Common explanation - carwash mechanism that engages the wheels and drags the car along. I've seen this on a number of 928s including my own when I got it from the PO. I replaced the droplink, and never tried to verify the real cause (I wash my car by hand).

That sounds right as it is a very straight grind. Occurred on PO watch - I've always hand washed - I didn't think there would be enough clearance for an automatic machine.
Thanks folks!

Yeah. My lazy PO, too! You're really gonna have your Porsche dragged through a CARWASH??? Greg Brown confirmed the theory last Saturday at Sharktoberfest. Said it baffled him for a few years before he figured it out. Thanks Greg!

I car wash mine a lot.
The guy knows to drive it far-right into the guide rail.
Then the end-link clears the guide rail, instead of riding up on it...mine came like that too from the PO.
I just don't got time to pretend I have a $50,000 car.
