Default electric fan issue

Recently picked up a MY93 GTS. The electric fan kicks in at start up and will not turn off until key off. Engine temp is fine.

928 newbie, so I still don't know any of the systems. Would like to keep it on road for balance of season before getting stuck into it. Any quick checks or known issues - stuck relay or something?

Thanks

There are a number of sensors that provide input to the fan controller to turn the fans on and control their speed along with the cooling air inlet flaps. A common failure that produces run-on symptoms like you seem to be experiencing is a short in the intake manifold sensor. It is right in the top of the intake just aft of the black rubber cover for the resonance flap bearing/shaft. Try disconnecting the wires from the sensor and see if the "always on" fan behavior stops. If so the sensor or wiring is shorted providing constant high temp input signal to the fan control unit.

Go to the Wally's World tips in the 928 Specialist website. Very good write up about the system operation and troubleshooting

Thanks Guys,

Coolant sensor didn't kill the fans so I read the Wally World notes. A/C on kicks in the fans, regardless of the system being non operational. Push button, situation resolved. D'oh !! Told you I was a newbie.

Cheers, Phendriks
