Default 928 engine in 911

Local PCA guy is looking at buying a 996 which has a GM LS1 installed and asking if a 928 engine would fit.

I've never heard of this but thought Id ask the resources here.......I personally wouldn't go near the car

The weight of the 928 engine would aggravate the poor weight distribution.

that's just excellent Craig......funee!

The LS1 is apparently lighter than the orginal flat 6 lump and Ive no idea how that compares to 928 engine weight.

The IMS issue on the 996 must be really bad to even consider these mods........he should save his money and buy a complete 928 then go have real fun.

Renegade has been selling LS conversions for 996's for a while now

The 928 engine is a bit heavier (about 100lbs) and much larger (longer, wider and taller) than an LS engine too.

So possible.......yes......cost effective, probably not....super cool...YES

Just like there isn't enough room for the Cayenne V8 in the 928, there isn't enough room in the 906 for a 928 engine.

LS is about 150 lbs lighter than a 928 V8. There is no pointing in pulling a running LS already installed in a 911 for the 928 engine. It does everything worse.

So it makes more sense to pu the LS engine in a 928. Has anybody done that?

Bud Hart in San Jose did a 928 engine install in a 911 time trial car circa 1981. Set up with quad 48 IDA Webers. Don't believe it was successful.......
