Default 1984 missing and no power

Hello all,

Looked at a 1984 928 today and it was obviously misfiring at idle and at speed. Had little power. Also a little back fire through the exhaust. 239,xxx on the odometer and it was not working. Otherwise clean car and starts and runs. Any ideas what to look for here? Or is it just a worn motor not hitting on all cylinders? Searching I read some injector timing issues, but know nothing about the system. Assuming it is not mechanical injection so would not think injector timing.

Like the look and ergonomics, and am mechanically inclined to fix anything, but don't want to get in over my head/wallet...

Sounds like ignition could be a problem. The "green wire" that carries the signal from the inductive pick-up can be a problem.

Get it and have fun if you're feeling it.

If you buy it, I have a spare 100K mile green wire that worked fine. I replaced it because of age but was OK. You can have it. (So can anyone else.)
Good luck,
Dave
